I decided to try an Alchemist without Artifact Creation. Once I can modify artifacts the game loses interest since I can create an uber-powerful munchkin.
This character was tricky because I had to hold back skill points until I had Archery and Antimagic skill point gain up to 0.5. I didn't get Archery there until most of the way through Mordor. So I was a very under-powered melee fighter.

That was my backup plan. I kept Alchemy at 30 to save up points until I got the gain for the other two up to 0.5. But maxxing out Alchemy let me make significantly better equipment. I was also able to max out Combat and put quite a few points into Weaponmastery. When I wasn't facing a monster that had a serious magical ability I would melee them with the vampiric sword, which is less trouble than firing arrows because there is no need to pick anything up afterwards.
