I should not have attempted that quest without Chaos Resistance. That was stupid mistake number one. I also forgot to grab my *Healing* potions -- that was stupid mistake number two.

This game was made significantly more difficult by the utter lack of ANY potion stores in ANY market town anywhere. This meant I couldn't stock up on Healing, *Healing*, Enlightenment, etc. potions. So I only had 4-5 Healing potions with me when I took on that damned quest. That was my entire stock. They're very, very hard to find with no potion stores.

On the other hand, I only found one Amulet of DOOM in the whole game... and look how good it was! (It must have made me overconfident.)

Um... looking this over... does that Thunderlord Horn work on special levels? If so... that was stupid mistake number three. :( (And since I'd already killed Maeglin, it would've been a successful quest, too!)
