Bizarre activation is pretty awful. Even when it activates for good things, there's no guarantee It's actually useful. Then you have to wait 500+ turns for it to activate again. It is just a losing bet all around.Leave a comment:

The One Ring activation. I don't even know what the activation is (please don't tell or even hint to its nefarious or benign or beneficial effects) as I never dared activate it the one time I did find the One Ring. I'll probably try it out at some point, but I'm a little nervous about it.

I have so many great artifacts that I'm bewildered at what combination to use. I'm glad I slept on it instead of trying to push through and finish last night because I just figured out a rather broken combination of power that I overlooked. Make sure you check out all the crazy good artifacts in my home, too, not just on my person.
With one weapon I do 670 to evil and another it's 1350 to Undead and Dragons and I'm maxed on all stats except 170 on WIS, and character solved except for Chaos and Shards. I don't sustain DEX or CON but I can restore them for a fat mana fee and I'll be killing things so quickly I won't be suffering much stat drain anyway. It's so rare I can put together this sort of power and pStun (actually, I don't think it's every happened). One thing that's really nice about Randarts is I more often than not end up using an amulet other than "Trickery, which is refreshing.
This game I've found big off-weapon damage, off-weapon shots, off-weapon extra blows, off-weapon elemental brands and "off-slot" speed (currently wielding something of a Cubragol xbow). Basically, living the dream.
I think it would be fun to use this randart set in a competition to see who can beat Morgoth the fastest. I'm thinking sub 40k runs should be pretty doable. It's a pretty sweet set since it has something good for all classes and play styles. I may play it again and dive like crazy since I know so many good artifacts lie in wait.
EDIT: Oh man, Ungoliant just dropped X6 xbow (+18) this will be crazy with the +2 extra shots ring at home. Maybe I go ranged against Sauron, or could bring the ring as a swap for easy max ranged/melee switching. Of course swapping out the xbow means losing 9 speed (which hardly matters while firing, but does matter while meleeing).
What in the good graces is going on? I'm now doing 796 to evil thanks to picking up armor with extra blows and +5 DEX. 1120 to Giants, 1575 to dragons and Undead. Hello and good day. Too bad I just killed Ancalagon, Kronos and Polyphemus.

The whole game I felt the combo was pretty overpowered; of course I found great gear with 3 immunities and had all my stats except wiz at ***. I was expecting to have a much worse time in melee, but my little Hobbit Rogue was great in melee. And at the end I had over 1000hp. Half the time I didn't even need TO because I just tip-toe around everyone and take what I want thanks to Legendary stealth. Since I found so much INT gear, I could be hasted all the time if I had regen. I think this game I may not bother saving !speed potions. I never used them the rest of the game once I reached I think 200SP.
Seems to me Hobbit Rogue does everything pretty darn well. I had a pretty big magic device bonus on the staff and wands; doing almost 380 per flick of the annihilation, not to mention the excellent skills with da bow (never found great bolts to go with the xbow, so was doing fairly nominal damage there).
But, yeah, the fight with Morgoth was a bit rough given I didn't have a good weapon for him. Even with Shield up he was pretty effective against me, though my base AC was only 145.
I feel like Tele-self is kinda buggy. It literally takes me to two places in the entire map most maps. I've self tele'd like 6 times in a row, only to bounce back and forth between two points over and over, which means if I've TO'd anything that level I will get placed next to *all* the dudes I TO'd. A roomful of nasties, like they were all sent to the corner or something, and then I sent myself there, too.Leave a comment:

tele-self, and wait for morgoth. do not *destroy*.
use half your arrows, tele-self, wait for morgoth, use the other half, tele self, gather up used arrows, TO the summons if necessary, repeat.
most summons will get lost in the dungeon between your teleport-selfs as they try to path to you, but get stuck in the middle as you keep jumping from one side to the other.
that's more or less the only tactic you got without rune, strong melee, ranger arrows, or chaos strike.
i love playing rogues, but i think they have the weakest endgame ..Leave a comment:

Yes, I'm playing forced descent. ?Teleport Level scrolls work; they always take you one floor down, unless you are on DL99 and Sauron is still alive. Once you hit level DL99, you cannot recall and you cannot be sunk through the floor by any of the many means the game has to sink you through the floor. This means rNexus is not necessary for fighting Sauron since he cannot send you down to Morgoth before he is defeated by you, and he cannot send you up a floor, because Forced Descent does not allow, by any means, for the player to ascend floors.Leave a comment:

You know, I don't think I was paying much attention to {ego}s. There probably was one I didn't see, but I had two wands of annihilation coming into the fight and picked up a staff of power while fleeing P's mobs towards the end of the fight which contributed a fair bit to his demise along with some bolts. I'd empty the staff and wands on him, then melee him for a bit, then when an opportunity presented itself I'd recharge and empty again before he got in melee range again. I suppose melee accounted for about 60%. I used a lot of !healings (nearly 20?) but I think only one *healing* (I think I left the !Lifes at home and left all the !CCW, too). He only got off one mana storm on me near the end of the fight, but his melee and summons did enough damage to make up for it. I kept moving off of the ; whenever P would move to try to get at me. Not sure if that weakens the rune, but the next turn I'd be back on it, and the next turn it would be destroyed. The only rune that lasted more than like two rounds was the last one of 6, where P and a Horned Reaper couldn't get me and P summoned no more, and died with the rune still standing. Found a better xbow (I think x6 with extra shots) that I had to enchant using a few of my many !Restore Mana.
I was afraid to use banish or Mbanish; so many monsters all over the place; figured I'd hurt myself below 600 and then get mana stormed. Plus, I like to kill things inbetween fighting M in the hopes of getting a weapon (which is how I got the upgrade in xbow). I did the entire fight without any destructs or banishments. Just phased a lot and occasionally teleported away. I TO'd Grip and Smeagol but P never summoned them again.Leave a comment:

I've been swapping it with another ring of power, but it does manage to teleport me at the *most* inopportune times. Just after I got all buffed up to fight sauron, had my wand of annihilation at the ready he comes into view and I teleport to the other side of the level. S fell easily, though, quite a lot easier than I expected. Not so many summons and his health just diminished very quickly with a few flicks of the wand and the acid scythe (600something), like any other unique all game. M, on the other hand is gonna be tough, cause I have no means for hurting him. I'm doing 350 before buffs against M in melee and don't have a great launcher <x6> +16. I'm sure the dungeon will provide on DL100.
At least I have 40 !healing (9 still at home) 18 !*healing*, 6 !Life and 36 restore mana. Worst comes to worse it will be a long fight. But I'm very confident I will get the damage to 550+ while screwing around on the level killing what few uniques remain.
Say, I've found at least 10 of each advanced book (there was 4 Tensers on one level) but I have yet to see one Kelek's (have object detection spell, too). Does hobbit rogue not get kelek's?Leave a comment:

This level with vault has some nice items: two rings with slays, though I’ll only post the better of the two (which was actually in a hydra pit), and a third ring with powerful stats and 500 heal but aggravates.
