After a long battle with Ancalagon and a host of Sky Drakes in Mount Doom I've made it to lvl 50. This has been my favorite ever character as a Ranger, if only for the randart ammo. I went for a balance on the skills - archery being the primary attack, but with strong melee as back up.

Stole Elessar from Gandalf when he showed up with a mystery amulet in his list. Did the same with an Elven cloak (+6!) from Quickbeam. With the amount of positive luck I have right now all kinds of crazy double-ego items are appearing in the shops, but I'm just looking for a plain old Demonshield for Artifact creation. Can't find one anywhere, ever since I found the scroll.

Will hopefully get to drop the ring soon ....

The easy way out would be to use the ring of Flares swap position ability. Detect monsters from the stairs and look for low level monsters, those are usually not immune to teleportation; you can normally make it into the fire room with 2 or 3 uses. Get as close to the 2 fire squares as you can, move over them ignoring all the Ws in there, destroy the ring and retreat by the fastest means available (ring of Flare is an option again).I usually have the ring of Flare on my character, either worn or as swap in for nasty situations. It is invaluable in many hopeless looking situations.
