Were you playing as a combat warper? You might want to try getting some sort of offensive spell capability (more points in thaum or fire, perhaps, or even runecraft) and set tactics to cowardly for battling Cursing opponents.

That will help your saving throw a lot, making Curse less effective against you.

Putting some of your spare skill points into spirituality would also help.

The logic went like this: A brand new 'thanc isn't really worth much, you need to level it up. To do so you need to kill things with it. To do that, you need to actually hit things, which isn't easy for a mage. So I set tactics to berzerker for the to-hit bonus (note the ring of accuracy +16). If I'd had it at cowardly like a good mage, I would have probably survived.

When I found Ringil I should have said "Oooh, Speed!" and switched. Oh well, live and learn.

I think the next time I see a 'thanc with a mage I'll just put it in the Mathom hose right away so I'm not tempted to try to actually use it.
