Please help!

I've played a few characters up to now, and have more or less worked out what's going on. But this character (boring swordsmaster I know) is doing well; cleaned Barrow, Orc, Mirk, dived the randart from Willow, and is heading into Moria

Got an extraordinary piece of luck (I've tried to max my luck) in getting Ringil very early. Now have a range of options on weaponry (Narthanc, Ringil or Gothmog, which seems to do lunatic damage) and where to put skill points (so far I've only really invested in magic device other than the usual)

Three questions;
1) What should I be wielding? (Nervous about damaging Ringil)
2) What should I be seeking next (kit and places to go)
3) Where should I be putting my skill points (I've got about 6o or so unallocated)

All advice gratefully

Speed's always nice, I think I'd go with Ringil (unless you want to level up Narthanc). The Land of Rhun is a nice, easy dungeon, a good next choice, even if you're just going for the randart there. Definitely get some better boots. Skill points in spirituality/prayer, maybe (you'll really notice it when you start seeing higher undead), or quest for Mindcraft.

I'd lug around Gothmog's Demonblade for battles with unique creatures that you find are your equal or stronger. It often drains the life out of your foes which feeds you hitpoints. However, it also teleports monsters away from you fairly regularly and that can be frustrating.

Thanks folks. I did a quick visit to the Minotaur to get the helm whilst I was waiting for your pearls.

Seeing your advice, think I will level up Narthanc for a while, with Gothmog as a back-up. Land of Rhun sounds like a good idea, never been there before.

Would love some good boots. There's no boots quest or anything obvious, is there?

thanks again

Help!

Do you mean that you have the one ring? Well, do you want to wear it or destroy it?

Wearing it is easy. Just put it on, and click past the numerous warning messages asking if you're REALLY REALLY sure.

If you want to destroy it, think about where Frodo destroyed it. What land was that location in?

On 20.1.2005 21:24 matthew.robb1@btinternet.com wrote:
Thanks for your advice

I can't bring myself to wear any of the rings that drain XP, mana, life etc. I'm probably being a bit of a wuss, but there you go. So it's off to [spoiler] I guess.

But am I strong enough for Sauron?

If you're not adverse to slightly scummy tactics, you can dive/thunderlord to the bottom of some side dungeons (Helcaraxe, small water cave), for more randarts so that you can replace the boots and ring. You can also top off some of your skills (sword-mastery, weaponmastery), and maybe put some spare points in stealth (since being mobbed five steps off the stairs is no fun).

On 20.1.2005 23:33 matthew.robb1@btinternet.com wrote:
thanks!

Not sure if I've done small water cave, but which other dungeons have randart opportunities?

Is erebor not thunderlord-teleportable?

On 21.1.2005 16:57 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote:
No, you can't thunderlord-teleport Erebor. What you need to do is get to the bottom of it (3600'), or wherever you feel your character is comfortable and recall out. Then you can recall in and out without having to walk.
I noticed your tactic and explore settings are both set to normal. It's a fine setting, but don't forget that you can play with them for different situations like 'boss battles' and what-not... just not sure if you knew about it.

Thanks for this. I do play with settings early in the game, but get lazy late on - thanks for the reminder!
