My favorite part about Angband is firing off mapping and detection and planning my path through the level that lets me avoid nasty monsters, assassinate loot pinatas and pick up some treasure on the way down. A level that forces me through a single path that involves a gauntlet of nasty monters I would normally avoid feels like an unfun combination of boring and deadly. I mean, it's not a big deal, because while I don't play with WoR I *do* play with connected stairs and without forced descent, so I can just refresh the level if I find myself on one of these. But this still feels like it's trying to introduce challenge by taking away all the fun parts.

Now, if the gauntlet was a kind of greater vault that had a metric ton of loot at the end, but not the stairs, then I might be a bit more keen on the idea. Similarly if you had types of vaults that blocked ESP.

Basically, I'd rather be tempted with treasure than backed into a corner.
    Bravo, all my thoughts exactly.

When I was still able to play 4.2.?, I saved my _Banishment charges just for huorns.*

    (And druj. Frak those guys.)

Made it a tough choice whether or not to use charges when I encountered a summoning unique and he started calling his buddies, cuz I knew there'd be a forest of huorns just around an upcoming corner...

(*soon... soon... almost saved enough for a new laptop)

Some things that are in 4.2.1 are also in 4.2.2 and vice versa. That's not rocket science.

yeah, I'm not sure I'd voluntarily play such a level.

I've been finding the number of huorns ridiculous in 4.2.1.

Paladin class ability list shows "blessed fighter" with description "You get improved melée with blessed and hated weapons".
But the effect does not apply to my unblessed Quarterstaff of Death (3d9 (+29), slay everything, cold brand.)

    Weird pathfinding bug.

Zip files for repro attached. Just watch Khamul moving. I waited too long and got hungry.
    Version 4.2.1
Edit: to see the bug, just rest a few turns.

Yes, an orange warning on arrival (or restore) would be good. So would a status bar reminder "no tele".

Yeah, that would be even better although I could live with just a message upon arrival. However, I think new players would appreciate a flag better, unless the message is something crystal clear like "YOU CANNOT USE TELEPORT ON THIS PARTICULAR LEVEL. GOT IT? GOOD!"

EDIT: Oh, and thanks to PowerWyrm for the answer.

Not that a heads up message would've helped, once the huorn was awake

Also a little question about these levels: are there reduced amount of loot or is all the loot on the right side? I've stumbled into one of these few times now, and detect treasure never seems to show anything.
