Angband 4.2.2

This is a new, rare type of level ("gauntlet") first introduced in 4.2.1. It features two caverns joined by a labyrinth section, with the special conditions that- The player always arrives on the left cavern, and the only downstairs are on the right;
- The centre labyrinth portion (the gauntlet) is not mappable;
- You cannot teleport from either the left cavern or the gauntlet (although you seem to have teleported from the left cavern - so maybe a bug there).

My first serious @ using 4.2.2 seems to be in a predicament that should not be allowed to happen. Or...I simply have some misunderstandings about how Angband works (certainly possible
Picture or link to picture attached, I hope...
I dropped down to a new DL, mapped the area and saw a mostly normal level but with two permanent walls between two apparently unattached sections. I got myself into a bind and used ?PD and lo and behold I ended up in the weird section between the permanent walls. Now that I'm moving around in that area it is mapping. And...I can't phase out of this weird area. And...the weird area is populated by Hydras (oh fun).
So several things seems amiss here. First, - the center section should have mapped initially, right?. Second, ?PD should have taken me out of this weird area, right? (I suppose if it is not a vault this might not be true, but it seems to be a sealed vault).
I can probably work/fight my way out of this, but I guess I'm just curious if I'm right that this is a bug (or two) ?

In my local Black Market, you can get a free Lantern of Shadows just by walking in the door! It currently has 17 of them going for zero gold. Save file is attached in case it is useful.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Bug:
"The Ethereal dragon is defeated." But I... am stuck in limbo. Alas... For what it's worth, he wasn't very close in a big room. I am not sure what to do to get out of limbo.
Edit: recall worked. Nice to have a "bug fix workaround."Leave a comment:

Apparently it is a common window configuration on angband.live to have the message window immediately above the main window, which was having the visual effect of doubling the message line.
There was some discussion of it here and also on the 4.2.1 thread.
Personally, I really liked the 4.2.1 method, and the more I think about this the less sense it makes to lump items into "auto_more". Items already have methods to deal with multiples (stacks) and could never fall into the "-more-" category.
I can see the logic in implementing an option to eliminate the main-window messaging entirely in addition to the original auto_more config settings so you can choose full messaging, auto-more messaging, or no messaging at all in the main window, but it seems to me that this is an all-or-nothing approach that leaves those of us happy with the old config out in the cold.Leave a comment:

Perhaps. But now you have to drag your eyes away from the main screen every time you walk across an item that disappears to see whether it was something you've squelched, or whether you automatically picked it up. IMHO, those messages don't fall into the "-more-" category in the same way that battle messages do.
If nothing else, the description should be changed, because the elimination of messages no longer depends on the appearance of the '-more-' trigger.

Mobs of Huorn are just tedious once you can defeat them easily. And they come in massive numbers.Leave a comment:

Yes, it is fairly recent, and a result of a request from people playing on angband.live. The assumption is you would only use auto_more if you have a message window open.Leave a comment:

I notice that if you have "Automcatically clear '-more-' prompts" set to "yes", then no messages are displayed at all at the top of the main "Angband" window. Is that by design?Leave a comment:

The Equippable menu only prompts 'v' when showing the alternate attributes. The main screen does not include it.Leave a comment:

I confirmed that on absolutely fresh installs of Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 Desktop, you just need to run "apt-get install libx11-dev" to get the appropriate libraries for X11, and "apt-get install libncursesw5-dev" for Curses.Leave a comment:

Did you see that you can see the primary stat and sustain info by pressing 'v' (and then press 'v' if you want to get back to the other stuff)? Pressing 'q' and entering 'con' as the filter string would let you limit the display to the items with bonuses to constitution.Leave a comment:
