      A startling speedgasm on DL69: BoS +6, BoS +9, and 4x RoS.

Only kept the BoS (ex Bile Demon) so I'm not sure what dropped the other stuff, although they were in the vicinity of my first two Great Wyrms of X (as opposed to Great X Wyrms).

      Crisis over. Carry on.

Just found this during competition 138 and on dlvl 30!
I doubt I will be swapping this out any time soon!

the Main Gauche of Liryarad (3d5) (+12,+14) <+1>
Dropped by a Mummified human at 1500 feet (level 30).

          +1 attack speed.
          Slays animals, giants.
          *Slays* undead.
          Branded with flames.
          Provides immunity to acid.
          Provides resistance to cold.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.

When activated, it destroys all traps and doors surrounding you.
Takes 49 to 54 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 87.9%

          Combat info:
          5.1 blows/round.
With +1 STR and +0 DEX you would get 5.5 blows
With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 5.5 blows
          Average damage/round: 185.7 vs. animals, 233.2 vs. giants, 233.2
vs. creatures not resistant to fire, 329.2 vs. undead, and 137.7
          vs. others.

Good thing you didn't dump that clear potion, thinking "oh, it's just water"!
You read the scroll labeled NOBIMUS UPSCOTI...
You are surrounded by a stasis field!
The tengu tries to teleport, but fails!

I vaguely remember when liquid refreshments were available; was water always a 'clear potion'?

Strange game, this one: a cave orc dropped Boots of Speed +9 at DL17, so I'm now sprinting around DL20ish with over 300HP but doing next to no damage and having the princely sum of two resistances: the half-troll's inherent rDark, and pFear from a Ring of the Dog. No free action and no see invisible make me nervous.

I'm over a thousand Uruks from CL31, but I'm feeling very vulnerable. Whilst at the same time feeling very invulnerable.

At DL 20 you aren't vulnerable to anything. You just need to use magic devices for until you find a better weapon

It's 'anticipation of vulnerability when I go down another couple of hundred feet' rather than current vulnerability. But...

                    *drum roll*

...I've just found a lightweight Holy Avenger which takes me into three figure damage territory and gives me See Invisible (always my greatest worry) and pFear.

Time to take to the stairs.

Only Half-Orc's get inherited rDark, not Half-Trolls. Resist darkness isn't that useful around that level anyways, but deeper down it'll help against those heavy hitting darkness storms.

Firsts are always good, and first artifact weapon is a big one. Taratol is good, too - useful as a main weapon for quite a while, and good as a swap for ImmElec for the whole game.

Good spot, he is indeed a Half-Orc, but as you say the rDark isn't in play yet.

Was last seen at DL31 having just hit CL31. Has got rPois but still no FrAct so I don't want to push him much further at present, but he seems to be one lucky paladin: he experienced the most benign nexus scrambling ever, one which swapped his 18/36 CON and his 18/38 STR.

Not really vanilla, but in the same kind of vein, so I thought I'd post it here: A new PosChengband character of mine found a "oTelepathy at dungeon level 13 -- it was dropped by a Cave Orc... or maybe I got my words wrong and it was just Orc Cave 13? Either way, pretty lucky find:

Wrath of God lying around on DLvl 6.
Of course I was a mage, go figure.

And, less spectacularly, though it had a great impact on my playstyle:
The realization that the no-sell 600 GP you get are enough for EXACTLY 2 town books, 2 ?WoR, 4 ?PD, 5 Torches, 5 Flasks of Oil and 5 Rations at 11 CHR.
If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.
