just found a potion of xp at dlevel 24, char level 22, 12k xp up to now +100k :-) now at level 29. Still feels somewhat of a mixed blessing, I feel I should dive quickly now, I would usually be a dlevel close to 50 at that level but my equipment is still garbage.

i don't think i've ever found an xp potion before already having a few hundred thousand. i always thought it'd be crazy that early though. say the RNG through one at you on dlvl/clvl 1. That's a good 20-25 levels or so. it'd be a crazy way to start a journey
If Dave were to go presidential he'd definitely be a Bonzo. Daves spend most of their time confused, stunned, or both. I've had a run of nine consecutive CL20+ Daves, none of which have got beyond CL27. Next Dave up is LII!
is that book actually useful early on? I remember finding the top priest book with a paladin very early on (before I had any of the other higher books) and I was rather disappointed because I was 10 levels away from being able to learn the spells, even more before I could cast any with reasonable failure rate.
Mages and priests can learn the spells in dungeon spellbooks much earlier than the hybrid classes can, so there might well be something castable in there as early as clvl 10 or so. However, manastorm is gonna have to wait.
Try plyaing lost soul mode: you can pick off a Mumak at cl 1 and get to cl 28 in about 5 minutes....

That from a html dump which I couldn't convert,
Master Qs are actually more difficult to deal with than that guy because they have some ability to disrupt positioning (blink/teleport/releport to). It doesn't even require that kind of layout - I have had games where his first summon filled up the available space with weak group creatures like orcs, and he just sat there like a punching bag for the rest of the fight. (In older versions creatures used to try and summon anyway, so you'd get spammed with summoning messages with no result).
Anyway, my 'whoa' moment: (although this was more stupid/lucky than awesome)
Playing a paladin, fighting dragons/demons while partially surrounded. I've been healing up when I get low, but leave one a bit too long and then fail on the cast attempt. One of the dragons chooses that moment to unleash a big breath on me, I think single resisted lightning or something of the sort. This takes me down to 31HP and I'm looking at a <more> prompt, knowing that two or three other creatures in range of me have yet to move. I hit space bar a few times, fearing the worst. There are no more breaths, just a lot of melee attacks, and I come out the other end still alive and on 3 HP.
