One of the standard challenge games is killing Morgoth with a shovel. You are well on your way....

I present this lovely suit of armor for consideration in the truly awful category.

    Code:
    n) the Hard Leather Armour of Unulos (-1) [16,-16] <-5> {cursed}
Dropped by Golfimbul, the Hill Orc Chief at 900 feet (level 18)

It makes you vulnerable to fire attacks, but resistant to cold.
It occasionally makes a loud noise.
         -5 searching skill.
         Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Prevents paralysis. Prevents teleportation. Drains experience.

Yeah, some individual artifacts are worse but it was kind of 'funny' finding 2 dismal things in a row. Besides, unless you uncurse it, that ring is rather complete: It paralyses you, invites everyone to come and hit you and with -22 AC makes sure nobody misses you. And if you wear that cloak, you might be just stupid enough to put it on.

Anyway, bit later RNG gods turned friendlier:

    Worst level ever

Got 'something worthwhile' feeling on DL18. Good! Early artifact!
    Turned out to be this:

    Cloack 'Eluil' [1, -14] <-4> {cursed}:
Found on the floor at 900 feet.

It makes you vulnerable to fire but resistant to cold
It paralyses you every now and then.
    -4 Intelligence
    Feather falling

    Activates for 6d8 frost bolt

Later, found a chest. Hopefully there is at least something useful inside.
    A ring! Nice!... Or not:

    Band of Vathimbar [-22] {cursed}

It periodically turns your skin to stone
It paralyses you every now and then.

    Sustains strength, constitution.
    Aggravates creatures nearby.

When activated, it teleports you one level up or down.
Takes 123 to 165 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 89.9%

FAA randart; actually kind of hard to fit in because speed is hard to accumulate, but maybe with two good rings?

Yet another HE mage winner. One thing I did not find is this
    the Shining Dragon Scale Mail of Morin (-2) [32,+40] <+3, +2, +4>
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
A suit of scales shining like a beacon of Light even as it greedily sucks the
energy away from everything that glows into Dark insatiate.

    +3 strength.
    +2 dexterity.
    +4 constitution.
    +3 stealth.
    +4 infravision.
It brands your melee attacks with weak lightning.
    Provides immunity to Acid.
Provides resistance to Lightning, Fire, Cold, Poison, Light, Dark, Shards,
    Nether, Chaos, Disenchantment.
    Provides protection from blindness, confusion.
Slows your metabolism. Prevents paralysis. Sustains your life force.

When activated, it allows you to breathe balance for 250 damage.
Takes 196 to 288 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 98.2%

Min Level 100, Max Level 127, Generation chance 11, Power 851, 18.0 lbs
Random dragon armor of power 851.
No speed or telepathy but just about anything else.

    This I *did* find:
the Ring of Ellon <+3, +2>
    --------------------------
    +3 strength.
    +2 intelligence.
    +2 tunneling.
    +3 movement speed.
Provides resistance to Acid, Cold, Light, Dark, Shards, Nether.
    Cannot be harmed by Lightning.
    Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it creates a lightning bolt (that always beams) with damage
    6d6.
Takes 41 to 45 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 99.0%

Min Level 43, Max Level 127, Generation chance 15, Power 257, 0.2 lbs
    Random ring of power 257.
May not seem much but found that early on and that movement +3 is just insane, for mage especially. Could run circles around death quasit and rain bolts on it.

    damage at the source.
