Just killing time...

Anyway, this one started as a kind of joke character... What if I tried to be a crossbowmaster and an axemaster at the same time? Would it be great? Terrible? Pointless? What?

It's a pretty absurd concept; the .2 Axemaster multiplier afforded by my Dwarven race is so low that the 125 (!) skill points that I've put into it aren't giving me anything near the bang for my buck that they should, but still... Whoo!

Unfortunately, like most Axemasters, this one is using swords instead of axes at the moment. Admittedly, I didn't expect to get Ringil (and Boots of Speed!) from the Princess before I left Mirkwood, so perhaps this lapse can be excused... I'll start using axes soon... I swear...

Just spent pretty much all of my money (~.5 mil) on this fancy new crossbow, which does waaay more damage than Cubragol, but I think it's worth it. Also thanks to Cubragol, I've got a big ol' stack of Seeker Bolts of Flame ready to be shot at unsuspecting baddies, so ammo isn't a problem for the moment.

Just had a really close call involving Time Hounds, Greater Wall Monsters, and a *very* badly-timed Trap of Drop Everything in Mordor... further bulletins as events warrant.

It occurs to me that an easier way to do this general concept would be with a Hobbit. It's not a crossbow, guaranteed, but .7 Axe (or other)-Mastery and .3 Slingmastery is easier to raise than .2 and .5, respectively.

Oops - granted, not guaranteed. Sorry.

You're right.... but I've already run a couple of characters like that... one dual-mastery Hobbit Swordmaster and one pebble-flinging Possessor. Both were pretty strong characters.

I actually originally started with a Dwarven Axemastering Mage, but that was a little too silly. Maybe I'll give the mastery-mage another shot after this one is done.

Well, off to Erebor...

Almost didn't do the Crypt--I often skip it if I don't need Luthien--but I'm glad I did decide to run through it, since it yielded this nifty randart ring that increases my hit, dam, and blows.

I've switched to Limbslicer now--it's not a particularly good artifact, but iI can do more damage with it than Ringil. Lacks the peripherals, though. It should do me until I find either Naturebane or the Hatchet of the Night. Mostly I'm using it because I feel guilty spending so very many points on Axemastery and then not using any axes.

Got a quest in Angband for Great Chaos Wyrms now; don't anticipate any problems.

Had a rough time in Mt. Doom...

Ran across a trap of Drop Everything that was the same color and symbol as a lava square (I had detected it, but my disarming skill is terrible and it was for all intents and purposes invisible). Pow, most of what I'm wearing goes on the floor. Unfortunately, one of those things was the pair of Boots of Speed that I've had pretty much the whole game, and whoomph, it goes up in flames. Huzzah!

Anyway, at least I got rid of the Ring (and Sauron). I've also got Nenya now, so hello telepathy. And I can switch out this randart cloak for Luthien, which gives me a little more speed as well. All in all, I took about a -5 to speed.

I should still be able to handle Morgoth in this state, though, so no worries.

On 1.8.2006 02:51 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote:
And just finished doing the same...

Morgoth left me Vilya as a parting gift... Sacrifice telepathy from Nenya for electricity immunity? Not a choice this character will ever have to make; he's retiring. I only wish I had been able to find myself a better axe--Limbslicer leaves a lot to be desired.

well there, your character concepts are ...interesting, to say the least. Thought about trying an artifactless yeek warrior?
These things are fun. In a way. I think you would like it.

Sounds it.... I *would* have to redo my automatizer though... hmm...

Any other restrictions? No fumblefingers? No Melkor? Ummm... no Rings of Speed?
