Something a bit different: a non-dwarven, Yavanna-worshipping Axemaster (this character incidentally was not inspired by this month's current DITL competition, which by concidence also features Axemasters). Guillotine worships Yavanna because I like having all the very nice auxillary spells (Ent's Potion, Healing, Stone Prison, etc), in addition to the melee-boosting god-spells (Water Bite and Tree Roots). The Axe-master part is just a bit of experimentation (I tend to feel sorry for underpowered classes).

Life was a bit stressful at times for poor old Guillotine (perhaps not surprising: the poor guy is an Axemaster after all). He failed the second god quest for starters. Then he had to make do with the Light War Axe of Ice throughout Angband (where, oh, where was the Hatchet of the Night?). And then there was Mount Doom. I don't think I've ever had a nastier battle in T.o.M.E. - that big long corridor in the northern sector not only featured the usual Nighwalkers and Nightcrawlers, but also Sauron, Vecna, AND the Mouth of Sauron. Sauron in particular seemed determined to take the Hand of Doom for a test-drive, though the Mouth did actually help me out at one point with a Mana storm - he destroyed some clutter on the ground, enabling me to cast Stone Prison. By the end of that corridor, I was actually starting to think quite fondly of the comparatively harmless Nightwalkers.

On the other hand, Guillotine did manage to get hold of a scroll of Artifact Creation, which he read on a Slaughter Axe. I do think it's pretty sad though that the best Axe I had been able to wield all game actually does less damage than an unlevelled Grond, despite me having Axe-mastery at 50 and Haftedmastery at zero. That said though, 'The Axe from Hell' (a bit of a silly name, but it was the best I could think of at the time) made short work of Morgoth, who put up much less of a fight than Sauron did. I made sure though to cast Tree Roots on a staircase in case I needed to flee (that no-teleporting thing is a nuisance when you can't create void jumpgates).
