Finally got a good game going again. Some resistances are still missing, and I "do not feel comfortable with my weapon" but decided to just suck it up; most of the time, at least a few attacks will hit. Also, Fumblefingers was giving truly great rewards so far, boosting my skills by a heck of a lot of points. Maybe I should take on the next relic quest soon...

Demonologist with Eru? Interesting. I thought that wouldn't work, due to Eru's dislike of swords and the Demonologist needing swords, but this character looks pretty strong. I'll have to try this combo.

Too bad about the lack of a good Demon Blade, though. Those things are powerful - the first spell upgrades to Hellfire at level 30-something IIRC, and the third is a Nexus field effect that will handily dispose of crowds.

More progress! Yay! However, on Mordor:35 I nearly bought the farm because of the princess quest for about a dozen Chthonians. Need to become more beefy before taking them on! My current plan is to do a foray into the Land of Rhun and pillage some vaults, hopefully gaining chaos resistance and INT/WIS potions for the better protection from sanity blasts.

About the Demonologist/Eru combo: it's a bit annoying to have 25% base fail even for low-level spells, that's for sure, but without Eru I couldn't cast them at all so it's fine. :) Also, somehow when I was still wielding my starting demonblade, it didn't say "You do not feel comfortable with your weapon" so maybe Eru doesn't dislike them? The non-existance of a demonblade that's useful later on is kind of a bummer though; the nexus field sounds quite useful and would probably remove enemies more easily than that weak rod of lightning balls (why the heck doesn't that display the amount of damage it does, anyway?).

Oh, and I still didn't find a rod tip of detection, despite visiting the Black Markets often...

On 28.9.2015 08:15 AmyBSOD wrote:
Did some levels of the Land of Rhun, and made the switch to a double-immunity armor. Now acid is a big resistance hole but immunities are just too good to pass on, even if it means sucking up the bad effects of that armor. Base acid resistance isn't very useful anyway since it takes at least double resistance to protect items, and even that has failed me sometimes in the past, so... for the time being I'll keep this setup. Might actually do the Helcaraxe next. Oh, and I finished the fourth Eru temple which was an unholy pain in the butt because I thought a rod of enlightenment would be useful... "rod of enlightenment" my ass, it's actually a rod of magic mapping, and I spent 40k on that useless thing! Next time I'm scumming the black markets for *potions* of enlightenment again, that's for sure! And I blame the useless rod for the loss of most of my potions of healing too, since I had to search the entirety of that temple level with breeding gold dragon worms breathing at me all the time...

Now I did some levels in the Helcaraxe and Cirith Ungol; didn't make all that much progress yet, but oh well. One intelligence potion shattered to the grinding ice one turn before I could pick up/quaff it... :(

After lots of dungeon levels and vault looting in Cirith Ungol, this is what I have to show for it. The new sword is quite good even though I haven't been able to stick any enchant scrolls on it yet, but I'd still really like to see a sword-class weapon with the "blessed" affix... Also found some more stat potions but especially INT is very hard to come by. When I'm done with Cirith Ungol, my next plan is to do the Spiders of Mirkwood quest where my fire immunity will hopefully make the elder araneas much more manageable.

On 1.10.2015 07:54 AmyBSOD wrote:
Major gear upgrades! Yeah! At last I finally got a blessed weapon, and combined with the completion of the last Eru temple plus some extra skill point assignment into Prayer I can now cast full-inventory identify at 5% fail! :-) The Tome of Knowledge was rather expensive but I hope to find another copy in the dungeon as insurance against elemental effects; while I'm immune to fire, acid attacks can still nuke it if I'm not mistaken. Speaking of which, I also saw the most beautiful randart armor ever in the Minas Anor black market. That thing had THREE immunities and oh so many resistances, including disenchantment which I really want to become resistant to... sadly, I didn't have nearly enough money on hand to buy it and even if I had sold all the stored "emergency cash" weapons it wouldn't have sufficed thanks to the awfully low sell cap on Minas Anor's weaponsmith. So I lost my chance at that armor, and I'll probably never find another one like it. :(

Meanwhile, Mordor proves to be much more difficult than Cirith Ungol even though my Mordor depth is still quite a bit lower... had an encounter with water hounds (this was a first for me), and those deceptive little bastards were quite scary. Why the heck are they red??? They should be cyan or something, because a cyan Z automatically causes the ***DANGER*** meter in a player's mind to go off because you'll think they're time hounds, but a red Z is usually a nonthreatening fire hound! Anyway, I was lucky that only one of them breathed, and I instantly teleported far away from there. Fumblefingers boosted my Demonology and Sword-mastery, yay! The current Mordor level has lloigors though which I foolishly allowed to summon on me several times, plus Medusa is also hanging around somewhere... I really should've been using anti-summoning corridors there... :D

Found Gothmog's blade! Now I can actually kill an aether vortex in one round... sometimes. :) Also got all the divination and Eru spells up and running, and thanks to my fire immunity the books shouldn't be in danger either. Plus more item luck - the randart armor I found isn't quite as good as the one I saw in the black market, but it's the next best thing. Immunity to the most annoying element in the game, YAAAAAAAAAAY! :)

There were some nasty speed bumps though. Princess quest for 5 lesser black reavers who disenchanted all my gear. Blah. And then there was the Hel-dragon, also as part of a princess quest, whom I totally underestimated. He seemed like a tough melee monster at first but then he breathed unresisted nether at me. All I can say is, I'm lucky he didn't roll max damage because that would have killed me outright (I didn't have resist nether yet at that point). And Mordor:49 has yet another potentially dangerous princess quest: this time I'll have to rescue her from Kerstin, the black belt in taekwondo... she's level 50 and appears in multiples, plus the game seems to be spawning all sorts of nasty unique monsters on the deeper Mordor levels anyway. Add a vault with granite walls and monsters that can bore through them and this could get messy real fast.

Well, I sure hope I'll find the last Gothmog set item, that would be so cool. And maybe I can also turn the -20 to luck on the blade around by repeatedly uncursing it? That can sometimes happen, right? Oh, and I didn't mention the Lothlorien spiders quest, or did I? Well... the normal araneas were much more dangerous than the elders, and that's not a joke. At least the elders would actively come to me so I can hack them up, but normal araneas hang back in their annoying forest waiting for me to step into line of sight and then they all curse at me for massive damage. I'm just so very glad that I can fly and sneak up on them through their own forest! :D

Things are getting difficult. The last Mordor level had a princess quest for 5 Grand Master Mystics but I eventually prevailed (the coaligned ent that decided to join me made things much easier), however the current one has 12 eye druj... it looks like I won't be able to beat them since my ranged options just aren't strong enough. And when I tried to melee them, they almost killed me. Theoretically I could try to teleport them all to different places on the level and hunt them down, but there's a greater vault, a lesser vault, a room with super-mega-insta-deadly Raal tomes and more on the current level so this will be a pain in the butt. Also, the greater vault has half a dozen level 80 uniques that have started to dig out the inner part already; if they manage to pour out of the vault I'll either get off the level instantly or I die. What to do???

:( Every character dies sooner or later... but at least this was the best one I played so far. Tried to shaft-scum past that quest but somehow I always ended up on dlvl55 again. What I really should have done is using the thunderlords to get past that... or maybe scrolls of teleport level would have worked too? Dunno about that. Anyway, my "strategy" involved a staff of shake which would maybe have worked but helpfully the earthquakes killed the scroll of recharging that got spawned, so I ran out of earthquakes and then died when stepping onto a square that allowed three druj to cast at me. And in hindsight I feel like an absolute idiot for not speeding myself up before going in... *facepalm*
