The Cyclops totem is a popular one; you can find those in the Wilderness near the Angband staircase. Just today my Ent Summoner summoned four of them, and they beat Uvatha down to one star in just a few rounds.

thanks. 2 things im not sure about...

1)how do u *improve* ur piety towards ur god? my one *big* mistake in this char is to believe in a god...

2)how does having multiple totems benefit you?

You can have multiple totems for multiple stuff, I guess. I usually carry three totems: one which is a good, fast, melee only totem, for killing small monsters (like a Cyclops, or a Great eagle). Then I carry one that uses shard attacks, to kill uniques, like Great Crystal Drake or a Law drake (Earth Hounds die fast). Then I have my big attack totem, this was Great Wyrm of Power, but for previous parts of game, other dragons work, like Great Crystal Drake. Usually this totem can also summon like a Ranger Chieftain.

For you I would use Cyclops as melee totem, Elder Aranea as attack totem, and it doubles to kill uniques, since it has a poison attack.

For Manwe, you should be praying 100% of the time, continuously. There's no benefit to *not* praying (unlike the other gods, where praying has good+bad effects). If you kill evil stuff while praying to Manwe, you get piety points. This can add up quickly if you're mowing through demons, etc.

However, I don't know whether kills by your pets count for this purpose. A summoner may do better with a different deity. If you don't care about strong melee with a bladed weapon, you could worship Eru, and get all those lovely detection spells. (In fact, your weapon of Aman is blessed, so you could use it without penalty as an Eru worshipper.)

Anyway, Manwe gives you air, conveyance and meta spells. Air gives you noxious cloud, which is a truly wonderful attack spell, but *not* if you have pets. Conveyance gives you teleport spells, which are always good to know. Meta gives you recharge, which helps enormously if you combine it with a high magic device skill and use wands/staves a lot. For a summoner, this is probably not very useful.

Tulkas gives you strength and constitution, and earth magic (yawn). The Str and Con won't help you much since you don't melee directly. His best spell his Divine Aim, which... helps you melee. It's a *great* spell for a fighter, which you aren't.

Yavanna gives you some useful stuff, but she gets terribly upset when monsters kill trees with their breath weapons. This would include all your summoned dragons. Whoops, we don't want *her* as a summoner!

Overall, as a summoner, I think I'd go with Eru. You get piety just for staying alive without praying, and that in turn gets you wisdom and mana. You can't use bladed weapons unless they're blessed, but you can still use hafted weapons (including mage staves for *that* kind of character), barehanded combat, or any form of archery. And you get divination spells, plus your Eru spells which are pretty much divination-type and can be cast using your piety.

I would assume that kills by your pets count for piety, since Eru kept docking me for points if my pets killed good monsters (often they would kill each other with breaths, too....)

Eru is still best though, not because its easy to get piety, but because of the great detection spells. I can't live without them :)

Personally I find runecraft to be useless, so I can't help much with it. I would've chosen Mindcraft, or Divination, or Conveyance, or Symbiosis.... Obviously it depends on what choices you had.

On 15.6.2003 17:52 skadabra67@hotmail.com wrote:
The primary purpose of Runecraft is to not put any skill points into it, and to use Rune[Sphere] + Rune[Knowledge] as a 7 mana or so spell, in order to create a ball of identify which identifies everything within the radius.

As far as I know that's the only useful effect. There are other combos which can heal you a bit, or do other stuff, but I don't know them.

BTW I would strongly recommend setting your tactics to coward, and to not melee anyone. The point of this will become clear when you start summoning pets with breaths or huge spells, and if you stand next to their target (which is necessary for melee) you'll get blasted as well...

And your hit points are *way* too low for a level 48 character. Swap that ring of Uvatha for a ring of Constitution +6. And if you haven't done so yet, finish stat gain, at least Con.

yea i guess i should go for stat gain first. will update all on character later
