A game logo/backdrop concept I made today, as a possible replacement for the current yellow ascii-logo that is displayed when you launch Angband:

There are different angles but you can't, AFAIK, distinguish between 'horizontal spell travelling east' and 'horizontal spell travelling west'; the tiles are mapped to match the ASCII symbols using four symbols for eight directions, like this:

Spell effects/missiles graphics aren't directionally specific (yet), are they?

They always (AFAIK) have been. Try turning your spell delay right up and watching one.

I do know there are some additions being planned in the near future and some replacements, so my work ain't over just yet. And I will probably adjust many of them once I get to play around with the complete tileset:
