So I figured I'd try out a Jedi again... but I wanted to go a different route. I thought a Jedi that also had access to Mindcraft would be unstoppable. Mind Wave everything in sight, except for the stuff that backlashes, and hit that with Force Wave or something. I think it might be a winning combo. The only problem I'm seeing here is the lack of flight. My other character (Hydra-Hybrids dragon) had innate flying, and it saved him many times from having to fight surrounded. Just pop into a forest and mind wave everything.

But I digress. I think that this character will do well. The only thing that's driving me nuts is that I can't seem to remember which Jedi powers go to which key, so I need a quick and easy way to Macro them. Anyone have any suggestions?

Everyone eventually learns to use the macro feature.

There are several ways to do it, but the method I use is as follows:

Press "@" (No quotes)

Press "0" to enter a new command.

Start your command with "\e\e\e" followed by the command itself. Like the following:
"\e\e\emca*5"

That would be the same as pressing escape three times, (the \e) and then pressing "mca*5"

Once you have your command ready, use option "4" to make a macro, then it will ask what key to bind it to. I typically use F1 for my most common attack spell. Remember that if you use a normal key, then it is not able to do it's normal function this way.

I.E. if you macro something to "z" then you could not zap a rod with that key anymore.

When you have your macro ready and want to use it I suggest you use option "2" to save the macros and just use the default name. (it is your character name)

When you exit the macro thingy you must press CTRL+R to reset everything or the macros will not be loaded. You only need to do this when you make or change macros however.

There are quite a few other ways to do this, and some may be better for you. However this will help a bit and make it a much more enjoyable game to play.

Just as a side note, you may want to look into inscriptions. Any object that you use, read, cast from, eat, zap, aim, throw...... Any object can easily be included in a macro regardless of what slot of inventory or equipment it is currently in.

Let us presume you have a Rod of Disarming. You want to only have to type z1 and a direction to zap it in.

You could inscribe it with the "{" (Shift+[) command. If you were to inscribe it "@z1 !s!d!v!k" then it would be recognized by the game as "1" when you press z, and the "!s!d!v!k" would prompt you to press y to confirm if you try to sell, drop, throw, or kill it. (in that order)

I commonly inscribe scrolls of recall with "!*" just because it's easy to type and makes me confirm when I try to do ANYTHING with my recall scrolls. :)

I hope this is helpful. The game has some documentation about macros and inscriptions, but it is a bit difficult to understand when you are new to such things.

I feel like a fool. I just noticed your lightsaber is inscribed... Sorry for being ignorant. :(

If you mean an easy way to auto-macro things, then I wish I had something useful to offer.

Oh, no dude, you're fine! I typically inscribe stuff manually that I don't want to lose. I just set the automatizer to automatically inscribe anything that has the word "lightsaber" in it with !k!d!s. As far as the Inscribing macros, if I can ever hunt down a few good junkarts, I'll do that.

Thanks so much for the advice. The real reason of why I haven't been able to tackle macros is because I couldn't remember which key I could bind them to. I had it all set up a few years ago when I was playing regular ToME, but I took a very long break from it.

So I've run into a few problems. I had to reinstall Furyband once already... It's weird, I open up the program, and term 1-4 windows are there, but the main window didn't come up. And if I followed the appropriate keystrokes, I could get into the game, but I couldn't get into the main window still... Seems to have fixed itself now.

Other bad news, my lightsaber that I've been using has access to Fire, Acid, Cold, Lightning, Earth, and Poison. It hasn't got the earthquakes flag yet, but it did catch the Drain Experience flag. So I've got a few more lightsabers stored at home. You think I should abandon this one and start fresh, or stick it out and deal with the exp. drain?

Well, good news, I figured out all the macros, and so now I'm tearing the dungeons apart with my awesome will. It's great fun. I got some neat artifacts that I can't use because I'm a Jedi, and I find it interesting that the RNG decided to gift me with Stormbringer.... It's in the Mathom House in Bree. Other than that, I'm working on clearing out the Paths of the Dead. Any ideas on where I should go from here?

On 17.1.2008 22:56 OmniNegro@hotmail.com wrote:
As for the drain_exp flag, I never pay any heed to that. A good lightsaber is hard to find and exp is easy to earn. It would take a LONG time to actually level you down, and it doesn't really make a dent in gaining levels.

I just looked at your other Jedi, and I see that you want something for the bow slot.... Have you tried an instrument? A harp of power will give you some more resistances.

Take a look at some characters to see what an instrument can offer.
http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=6640
http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=6435

Each of those were mine in an earlier version of FuryBand.

As for where to go...

If you want a challenge, you could try getting to Khazad-Dum and do the nice house quest there. (Lots of High Demons)

You would need a way to pass mountains to get there. Wraithform would do it, even if it's an activation item that gives it, but some would say that is an exploit.
(It really is.)

If you can not find a wraithform item you could go in through Moria. (Or was it Isengard?)

If you want a different challenge, you could try The Tower of Dol-Guldur. (In Mirkwood)

Just as a side note, keep in mind not to level Dark above 42 or so until you have Light to 45 if you want to nearly max both.

Believe it or not, but Jedi (The base spell school) is MUCH better in this version of FuryBand. The Force Push and Force Pull spells do MUCH better damage than they did in previous versions.

Light is usefull and can be absolutely invaluable in deeper dungeons, but you can pass on it for a while.

But the skill system is messed up in that you MUST have Light and Dark at 45 each and exit the skill screen to set them before you go back to push Dark to 50 for Force Kill.

If you do not then it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to get dark to 50. Ever. Period.

Sorry for re-repeating this same old advice, but I lost several good characters before I learned my lesson.

Earlier versions of furyband enabled the use of bows on Jedi characters. I think that in the new version that you can't d that at all. I was also thinking of leveling up my Mindcrafting skill a little bit, since I have no way of finding traps unless I run into them, which can really suck. Besides, I'm not sure that I'm going to have enough skill points to do both Light side and Mindcrafting.

I'm really missing the ability to wear more than two rings though... It's forcing me to give up quite a bit. I'm thinking about running a Gug (or whatever it's called) next after this character dies.

Also, I really need to find a dungeon town with a potion shop so I can start stealing good potions.

On 19.1.2008 11:30 lordxandor@gmail.com wrote:
So I've cleared out about half of Moria. I took your advice and found a harp that I could wield, though honestly, it's not doing me much good now.

While I was happily romping through Moria Force Storming everything in sight, I accidentally killed a Swan. Apparently those things don't like to die, because it hit me with the Morgothian Curse, hitting my Elemental Amulet of Trickery. Which was annoying. So I tossed it and equipped Faramir. Ah well...

So I'm starting to raise Light side, since I finally found some use for it. This will mean that I'll no longer have to worry as much about healing. Nor will I have to tangle with identification late game for all the artifacts I run into. Now the only thing left is for me to find some better equipment and the Rod Tip of Home Summoning. That and possibly a Portable Hole.

I'm gonna go clear out the Small Water Cave and then the rest of Moria, then hit Isengard. Hopefully I'll gain a few levels in there somewhere.

Any tips on equipment or where I should be headed next?

Since you are not leveling Jedi Dodge you will have enough points to get all your useful skills to max or near max. You will also have MUCH better equipment options since there is no reason to neglect wearing a shield, helm, and gloves.

I usually try dodge, but there is little reason in late game since dodge gives only a few percent chance in Nether and Void with the skill maxed.

I'll post more later. I have to go. :)
