Urggh, dbl posting.
Just spent about 5.5k XP on skills, hence the nice round numbers on my sheet!
WTF do I spend money on wuth no black market? Apart from enchant scrolls, I just can't get rid of it at the mo.

With your money? At 5K, save it, and check the shops for low-cost egos. The stores will stock some better items occasionally.

But what you really want is a big pile of CCW and teleport/PD.

Also, there is saving up for better egos, and investment once you hit a large chunk of change. Stores stock better items as you spend more in the them and sell to them. You can kickstart the process by '*I'nvesting in them.

I'm good for supplies now, should really have brought another dump when I came online, maybe I'll update later on when I've tackled my next quest (Grave Wights were a doddle!)

I wasn't really talking about that piddling 5k, but later on... I didn't realise stores behaved in this manner, thanx for the heads up.

I really like this variant!

Another quest over, think I'll do a hard one next. I love planning for quests, equipment gets rotated a lot more often. I also love the special lairs/pits!
Have a stash to grab, inc. unzapped rod then back to town.

I'm going to either take oath of iron or join the guild (once I've shopped), but having difficulty choosing between them - guild seems to fit better for now, but I think iron will produce a stronger char in the long run, basically the only disadvantage would be magic device capping at 50%, as I don't intend to cast anyway. hmmmm....

On 17.8.2007 05:08 camlost wrote:
For a non-oath burglar, your burglary only counts at half rate after 20. The penalty to burglary will affect your proficiency with traps, your chance to steal, things like that. Probably get your talents later as well.

As an oathed burglar, you'll want slightly lighter weapons, but get more criticals and stuff with light weapons.

As a warrior, you'll gain HP, str, dex, con, and will hit more with heavier weapons. You'll also lose the ability to cast and will take a 50% penalty to devices.

Rod was a trap locate, also grabbed a cloak of protection, as well as nice ammo as a reward.

Got a 2nd rod from a mummy on my last dive, floor was full of interesting rooms, perfect place to test out my new specialist burglar skills! If my understanding is correct, tho, my predisposition to lighting corridors and the fact my prim. wpn has a light radius means I'm not getting all the advantages; but I'd trade 2Cha for 2Dex anyday.

I'm torn between making some acid ammo with that iron in my home, or holding on for another essence of prot. and trying for ~Mag Prot.

I'm starting to realise that questing is fun, but that the forced slow dive rate limits your score. Speaking of quests, I'm stood on the stairs now about to face 32 nexus hounds, something I'd feel a lot better about if I had RNex or a means of detecting them.

Wish me luck, Drek fans - I'll most likely need some!

Nexus hounds were going swimmingly; got a quiet floor, just orc pack led by Gorbag (popped him good for 3 whole pts!) and 2 hippogriffs, in the 75% of the map I saw! Took it careful - spiked doors, lit everything up, never let them get the jump at all; cinch to take out the first 20 or so.

Unfortunately, then I saved and had a couple beers...
...got 'ported into a pack, and I should have waved the staff of earthquakes, or at least phased - I forgot nexus can do a teleport level hit! Next thing I know, I'm up 1 floor, with an uneasy yellow feeling, on 100hp, hounded by monsters and out of light essences after 3xfailed attempt at making ?MM. I'd had 2 warnings by this point, so I hasted and even pumped alchemy with the xp I had available, before attempting to creating ?D/SL with my only essence of knowledge. Another fail!

Long story short, when I got back to town, I saved game and I'm gonna go back when (and only when) I sober up! Have got 13 nexus vortices for quest next time, so I can at least redeem myself.

Alcohol is the wrong drug for this game. :)

On 20.8.2007 11:55 daven_26d1 wrote:
Nexus vortices did little except shuffle 2 (identical!) stats, provide me with heaps of N essences, and give me +8hp. Thanx, pink v's.

Finally found an artifact, not a great one, but nice all the same, hanging on to rapier as it's lighter.
Invested equivalent to purse in GS and AS; this has paid of as I now have ego light/gloves. See Invis on lantern in particular gives me more freedom. Annoyingly got a big-ass sword for last reward, hardly count that thing as a light wpn! (See my home). Thought I would save it and hope CHA rises again before I need to sell it.

Missed out on a second -FB during recall thanks to forgetting to walk with pickup. Urk.

Not much chance to play, as have been rather wankered most of weekend, however finished last quest this morning, they're getting too easy, so decided to dive directly to next quest. When I recalled down however, my perception message makes me think I should explore this floor...

I had originally put the inscription {!q. Really, don't.} on a pile of potions of essences(nexus) and got a bit carried away.
I hope that the helpful labelling was some small consolation to the troll pack that I tossed them at.

Your Executioner's Sword of Lightning (2d12) totally kicks ass! I'm quite sure it does more damage at 1 blow than Careth Asdriag at 2, even counting fewer (but bigger) criticals. How much does your melee skill description plummet when you wield it?

On 20.8.2007 22:29 Daven_26d1 wrote:
Doesn't drop terribly, but Its too much weight with my current setup, although I would like the lightning resist! I just got a big flail of heroism (+2 str) and some black DSM too that I'm test driving, and I don't want to have to leave my rods and staves at home to avoid slowing. I can only sell for about 6.5k though so I'll hang onto it... may come in handy later!

BTW, I get get 2 blows with that sword(!)... you get two blows min with all weapons in the O-type variants... Neat huh? Getting three blows (even with a dagger) is a lot harder. Monsters generally have two+ attacks as well.

Couldn't bring a dump because my gf has stolen the other computer to play ADOM. I just heard her scream cos she died!

Oh yeah, the light radius is a problem too, thieves have bonuses to criticals/theft when in darkness. There is no way I could budget a swap weapon if I was lugging that thing about. Maybe I should just mail it back to Cloud, Midgar, FF7...

Last quest was awesome, was a fecking chore, but I got a -FiB as reward, and I got Khim. He disenchanted (-1,-1) Careth, but I forgive him when he dropped both Thalkettoth & Hammerhand!

I now get 4 blows with Careth or 3 with the flail, and If I wear my other Dex gear, I get 5; can't remember if Thalk. gives FA tho, and the slaying gloves will probably give me better damage in most rounds of attack than +1 strike anyway.

I'm now carrying under 50% of my allowance into the dungeon, with +3 spd as well. *grins*

Got Eriril as a swap wpn, no more need for ?ID/_Percept!! Was annoyed to find that neither sling bullets nor throwing wpns can be poisoned, but at least I'm planning on raising burglary to 70% anyway.

Just found some FA boots so I finally freed up my second ring slot, FA was the first ring I found. (As I have no other source of Rpoison, Its already spoken for, mind.) I'm only wearing the boots now to protect from breathers.

Just dropped to my quest floor, Mature Blue Dragons. Have !Resist in case I get group attacked, and 4x!Heal, so not very worried. I just detected Azog about 10-15 tiles away, time to claim the head of the Uruk-Hai King!

?Questing were a new idea to me... nice, although I stoopidly forgot to take any means of digging, and had to 'persuade' an Umber Hulk to pop open a sexy vault for me. Draebor was around, but discretion dictated that I get him later on.
Came off floor with heaps of treasure, inc. blanket of elemental resistance, seems cool but I understand that Rbase will help to protect my inventory - can anyone tell me if the blanket will add anything further, or will I just be wasting a slot?

Have all the really important resists for mid game now, but HLife & RDisenchant are v. desirable.

Climbing that ladder...

Got some decent choices for future armour, though both White DSM & Rohirrim are poor choices for now when analysed closely. Mim gave me quite a dance on eog quest floor, but didn't manage to disenchant anything.

Decided to slow down XP spending, if I'm gonna have any chance of touching the sort of scores that Camlost has been banging out! Paid off pretty nicely, as I have roughly doubled my score between my last two quests, despite the fact that the first thing I did after this idea was to drink an UnIDed !GainSkill... just spent 10k XP on Mdevice though, as fail chance for the ~Esc. I just made was too high.

Experienced the "quit w/out save" problem just after I last posted a dump - but I only actually lost my recall to town/shopping (Thank you autosave!) - just meant I got a different quest (Eldraks instead of Mumaks). Teach me not to hit Ctrl-S first!

Spent all my cash on a robe of permanence (but au is building nicely again!) and swapped in a ring of combat. That lvl 53 Black Dragon was slain in 4 rounds of attacks, although it took me 3 attempts to get close to him. This damage dealing has come at the expense of armour though (thalkettoth gives more than the robe and I was also wearing ring of Ice(+16).

Just found the shield of Thorin, which has definitely gone some way to remedying that issue. Found about 70 essences on top of it, including 50 venom! Coupled with the fact that I've cottoned on to the idea of making slings that cover missing resists, I can happily afford to buy a 90% chance of RPoison on the next one, as soon as I find some good ore (steel or better), I can swap the ring of Ice back in then. Also want see invis on it, as the PoG has to turn up sooner or later, and I'd like to dump the illumination rods. I've had much more potent slings(damage-wise), but I only really need to shoot Mithril Golems and the like, with piercing bullets, so the flags are much more important than the numbers. Not that I didn't try for +power on the last one...

Boots of Slow Descent were just icing on the cake. I wouldn't be greedy, and pray to the RNG for Ringil, but wouldn't mind Anduril or Sting about now...

Got 3 stats maxed internally, and not v. far away from getting the other 3 as well. I love this stage, because I no longer have to carry ego items back for treasure, I can just clear 3 floors and cart back stacks of stat potions.

Time for a good old clear-out, both my inventory and home, but I thought I leave my cluttered inventory visible for everyone to see on this dump. Still have to pick up my quest reward, fingers crossed for a (+Spd) item!

Haven't spent XP for ages, except to skill restore, but only encountered Lokkak, who not surprisingly didn't yield any score. :(

NB - just had to spend some so the dump would go through, didn't work. for some reason it read my score as 791 last time, but it was only 790 (I still have the t-files). I've had to "cheat" and change it to 791, but I'll mail Pav and get it fixed...

Not sure I'm wearing the right rings... RPoison seems less important to me than in V, (only manticore quest really gave me a problem) but nether attacks are pretty few and far between.

At the back of my mind, a little voice is telling me to wear both, and just give up the =Combat for now; but the louder voice at the front keeps saying "The best defence is a good offence!"

YASD - of a sort, as in I forgot to top up the electricity meter and when the lights went out, I had a corrupt savefile - after I'd done a full tree rebuild in reiser, at least! Weirdly, the file is totally empty ( a big heap of NULLs - not much hope for fixing that!).

Post @ fatigue means I'm unlikely to play this again right now (though I've found my new Ironman variant!) so I'm off to try out Un as I promised mr Doull...
