This character is insane! No recall! No potions of Cure Serious! No means of digging! No means of healing! Guh!
I've run a few attempts at this character, but this one seems the most promising; got barehand-combat up to .5 from FF in the Barrow-Downs alone (an insane stroke of luck), so now I can combine it with Curse and Mindcraft for a fairly effective character.
Biggest problems right now: not enough HP, no means of curing insanity (this is most likely to kill me in the long run), no static resistance to elec or acid, no confusion resistance (*&$@#!!!), no see invisible (double *&$@#!!!). Some of these are fixable, some not.
I expect to get a little further with this one, but getting to the endgame seems pretty unlikely.

On 16.3.2006 08:46 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: In Moria now, gaining XP and piety (and a little gold while I'm at it).
Moria is a good place for this character. Orcs and trolls are easy (though minor) XP with little risk, and are susceptible to Mind Wave. Actually, I almost bought the farm in this dungeon with a Mind Wave spell in a room full of Flying Skulls--I forgot about that "its corrupted mind backlashes your attack!" thing. I'll have to be more careful with the spell in the future.
Killed my first ancient dragon (an ancient blue), so things are looking up. Just got fire immunity, too. Melkor's so good to me :P

I don't think you'll have to worry about Black Breath too much, I never had much trouble with the Ringwraiths. Just make sure to get the first hit in and they'll be stunned and cursed etc.
Are you using Adrenaline Channeling to romp around in the wilderness in daylight? I suppose if you did get the Black Breath you might have some trouble getting back to Gondolin, with a horrible mindcraft failure rate.
No see invisible shouldn't be too bad with Mindcraft precognition, but no confusion resist may kill you sooner than sanity drain.
Have fun!

Got Necromancy up to .5--that's the last real skill I wanted (for healing / pet creation). Pretty much finished with Moria, killed Durin's Bane, and did the Nirnaeth quest (the Hrus proved a bit much for this character at close range, but the void jumpgate / psychic drain / mind wave combination took care of them).
I'm not *too* worried about Black Breath--I'm playing this character a lot like a very cowardly Lost-Soul, and it's probably not to my advantage to even fight Nazgul at all. If it comes to that, though, the best way might be to distract them with some pets produced by Raise Dead and then sneak up close and get some cursing hits in.
On 17.3.2006 00:04 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: Just got done with a nasty quest (Nycadaemons, Mordor 2800), so figured it was time for another update.
Character is, umm, having a little trouble, but still plugging away. Got a quest for skull druj (my most feared enemy right now) in Mordor, but thankfully it was an FF quest so I could skip it. The plan right now is to go as deep in Mordor as possible without killing the character, then go gain experience elsewhere, or take on Dol Guldur if I think I'm ready.
Wheee....
On 17.3.2006 00:05 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: Forgot to mention: I've got a princess quest for Dracoliches right now. It'll be nasty, but at least I can resist nether and double-resist cold. And Dracoliches don't brain smash...
On 17.3.2006 00:26 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: One more quick update...
Killed the Dracoliches, and did a quest for Harowen and another for Hell Knights. All three were pretty simple: lure enemies out one by one, Character Armor, Adrenaline Channeling, Lightspeed-Jump, punch enemies in the face until dead. Wash, rinse, repeat. Also: never, ever, EVER underestimate the Curse spell.
Got an FF quest for Osyluths around 3200 right now, wondering whether it's worth it.
On 17.3.2006 00:55 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: ok, ONE more update...
Decided to take on the Osyluths, which was (as one might imagine) pretty hair-raising; their attacks really hurt, and they tend to summon things like Barbazu that make you want to tear your hair out. They were on a large destroyed level, which made it pretty easy to hunt them down one at a time, but still I had to beat a hasty retreat several times. My reward for all this? 10 extra mana from the 2.7 in Magic that Fumblefingers granted me.
Finally made it all the way to Mt. Doom! There was a princess quest for Gelugons on the final level of Mordor, but there's no way in hell I'm doing that.
Next: Dol Guldur I guess, or maybe Erebor for a little more XP.
On 17.3.2006 18:08 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: OK, good news, bad news, and really bad news: the good news is that this character actually managed to kill the Necromancer, Feagwath, Glaurung, the Watcher, and Shelob. The bad news is that none of them gave him the Ring, and the really bad news is that he's having *immense* trouble with the Angband dungeon--he just recently was reduced to 7 (7!!!) HP and confused during a fight with a dragon, and the only thing that (barely!) saved him was Melkor summoning a bunch of demons to his aid. He's already having trouble defeating even minor enemies, and his current quest (Chaos vortices) is going to be *no* fun at all. I have a feeling I'm close to the terminus point for this character. Can you imagine him trying to fight Pit Fiends? Great Wyrms of Power? Can you imagine him on Mount Doom? Fugghedaboutit!
Anyway, I'll see how far I can get, but it won't be much further.
On 17.3.2006 18:24 lorddimwit@hotmail.com wrote: Wow, almost called it TOO well...
I killed the vortices (very carefully!), but the next quest was for Great Wyrms of Perplexity, whom I could only kill by sticking a Void Jumpgate under myself and phasing out whenever I got confused. Unfortunately, Melkor worked against me in this instance--I got breathed on by a Wyrm, he summoned monsters to my aid, one of them was Dwar, I couldn't dismiss him because I was "too confused to command my pets," he summons a lot of hounds, the rest is history.
This was a fun character for a while, but I don't think I'll try it again. There's just too many restrictions / not enough variation.
Oh well...
