Change of pace after a series of (unsuccesful) high-elf mages, this is my first straight warrior-type in ToME, and he (well, it) is doing quite well so far. Basic resists are covered twice thanks to the Defender weapon, and I'm saving some skill points just in case FF dares to show his ugly face in Mirkwood (0/10 in Barrow Downs O_o). Currently collecting orc mincemeat, getting near Deathwatch, and gaining lots of piety. I hope I'll start seeing some effects of it soon...

Well, they certainly did. I still have to see the real effects of the auto-Curse against really tough opponents (normally monsters last a maximum of 3 rounds), but it's certainly showing up quite frequently. And I'm almost sure I already have fire immunity, although it doesn't show in the sheet.

Finally got some FF quests, he's all around Mirkwood losing swords. Symbiosis will probably be the one I'll invest some points into, if I manage to raise the step to 0.5 soon. The princess is being a btich with the rewards lately, but just before the dump she compensated for a series of Foo of Resist Bar with this nice Elven Cloak of Stealth +7 I'm wearing. +3 luck for Thengel, +2 for Dunedain race, +7 (I think) for the cloak...Looks like it's going to be an artifact fest from now on ^^.

On 27.3.2004 13:01 dalbeider@yahoo.es wrote:
...and guess what I just got as a princess reward, just two levels deeper ^^. First time ever, in any *band, that I come across the famed Ringil. Now to make good use of it, while keeping an eye (or both) on our friend the RNG. He must be preparing some surprises specially for me right now...

Looking good...just finished vacuuming Orc Town, now probably I'll teleport down to kill Durin's Bane and forget about the rest of Moria. Then I'll head straight to Mordor. Fire immnunity from Melkor will be a real blessing there.

As you can see, artifacts are popping from nowhere, even now that I've swapped out Thengel for Hammerhand. Doing 1200 damage per round on average, almost nothing at the current level stands more than 1 round against me. Ringil is a real killing machine, and even more coupled with nice stats and high swordmastery.

Now comes the time when most of my "good" characters normally end, the depths of 2500-3000 ft are my most common resting place. Let's see if I can keep my eyes open with this one, I don't want to waste the lots of luck I've had so far.

Still alive and kickin'. Plummeting through Mordor right now, with increasingly difficult quests (last one was Demoniq Q's, more annoying than dangerous). The equipment is rounding up itself, with some nice randarts showing up lately (two shields with 2 immunities and reflection in one level, heh). Toughies like lesser balrogs and lesser black reavers last no more than 1 or 2 rounds. This is starting to look promising...

On 1.4.2004 13:07 dalbeider@yahoo.es wrote:
Just after finishing the Maeglin quest, which was much easier than I expected. My silent (bay) watcher Mitch confused him in the first round of combat, and he couldn't summon or do other nasty tricks for the whole fight (which lasted 5 rounds, by the way ^^). He dropped some nice thingies, like Gil-Galad and the Arkenstone. I'm still trying to decide if I should keep the randart shield for acid immunity and reflection or go with Gil-Galad for better AC.

I'm close the the bottom of Mordor, and FF is taking its time to give me Symbiosis and/or Mindcraft as a reward. I'm saving those skill points for one of them (preferably the first), and for some final rounding of skills (a bit more in prayer for improved curse, a bit more in spirituality for better saving throws, maybe even some points in magic device for the hopefully upcoming rods of healing...). Decisions, decisions...

Oh, and this guy is already my best character ever. Go Phrann III!

Forgot to mention...Flare AND Fingolfin dropped by the same Dracolisk in Mordor 57. Cool guy.

Done with Mordor, reached CLvl50, spent all skill points, so character developement is done. Currently killing dragons in Erebor, looking for some good helm, shield, armor and/or ring. Next I'll probably go for Dol Guldur and the Necromancer. I still don't know what I'll do with the One when I come across it (with my luck, Glaurung will surely drop it :P). Maybe I'll keep it for a while until I round up my equipment, and then maybe I'll wear it and go to kill the big guys. Losing all homes sucks, but well...I'm evil ;).

Glaurung, the Necromancer and the Watcher in the Water down, and no sign of the One. This leaves only Sauron if I'm not mistaken, unless I dare to read the Crumpled Scroll to have another chance with the other uniques. Hmm...

So far I haven't found any particularly tough battle. The closest thing would be when Glaurung summoned 2 or 3 Great Wyrms of Chaos and Law, but they went down quite fast. So I'm quite confident about entering Angband and facing the levelled monsters inside...let's see what happens.

Oh, and check that broken dagger randart in the Bree house. It does more damage per round than Ringil! O_o.

Just entered the Forgotten Crypt, and lo and behold, there were Gothmog, a Great Wyrm of Chaos and Azriel pounding (well, trying to pound) on me at the same time! O_O. The result? All three dead in no more than 15-20 rounds, and I received something around 200 damage (Mitch took 50 more or so). Mitch's confusing attack is *awesome*, Gothmog didn't land a single blow and had time only to summon a poor Nalfeshnee. Crossing fingers, but I'll dare say it aloud: unless I do something *very* stupid, this guy's a winner.

Well, I *did* something stupid :(. I've learnt the hard way how to be killed by a mob of greater demons in the Dim Gates. If I hadn't ventured into the open and stayed on the void gate...the saddest part is that what hurt me the most (and killed me in the end) was the sanity drain from Water Demons. Before I noticed I was already on 72/530 SN. I started killing them with the highest priority, hoping for recall to shoot in, but it was too late...Well, I guess this is just another step into the right direction, and one more special level I know how to tackle. Let's hope next time I won't die in the Nameless Level :P.

You'll be avenged, Phrann III. I swear.
