A concept character: Maedhros son of FĂ«anor is back, determined to revenge himself on Morgoth (and get those Silmarils back). Being a dutiful son and everything, his equipment favours those items associated with Feanorians specifically or the Noldor in general - hence his somewhat odd choice of equipment.

Weapon: The Main Gauche of Maedhros rather goes without saying, and he used it from the Orc Caves to killing Morgoth. It's not the strongest blade around, but it's his (and from mid-Mordor he had Thaumaturgy to do the heavy lifting). Glamdring (belonging to cousin Turgon) was his back-up plan in the event of disaster, but Maedhros had a real crisis of conscience when Uncle Fingolfin's Ringil turned up. It's a Noldorian blade, and Fingolfin certainly wouldn't mind, but in the end Maedhros stuck with his trusty Main Gauche and left Ringil at home.

Bow: Little brother Amrod goes without saying. He never found Amras, and no character of mine has ever found the Harp of Maglor.

Rings: Surprisingly difficult. Narya was used in preference to a Ring of Extra Attacks because as one of the Three Elven Rings, it was crafted by Maedhros' nephew Celebrimbor. I hate to think what would have happened if Nenya or Vilya had turned up too...

Amulet: Maedhros worked with the assumption that the Nauglamir is the version with the Silmaril in it. It goes without saying that he had to have it. This posed a small problem with juggling Disenchantment resistance, because he could no longer wear Elessar. Thank Eru for that randart cloak.

Light: Maedhros had a choice here. Either go with a standard Feanorian lamp, or use the Phial of cousin Galadriel (the Arkenstone or the Dwarven Lamp of the Magi definitely being out). He used the Phial up until Angband, when he found a Feanorian lamp in the Crypt. In the end, he went with the lamp - it's what Dad would have done, and the Phial is more associated with the Third Age anyway.

Cloak: A randart cloak giving fire immunity and disenchantment resistance was preferred over the Shadow Cloak of Luthien. It's not as if Feanorians and Doriath get along anyway.

Armour: This is probably one of the more unique equipment choices. Maedhros wore the coat of Trone up until the Dim Gates when he stumbled across the Armour of Himring (Himring as you'll recall being Maedhros' own fortress). So he had to have it, even if Himring is much less impressive than Trone. Thank Eru for that randart cloak...

Shield: Little brother Celegorm goes without saying. Screw Gil-galad: brothers before distant cousins.

Helm: Wore Hammerhand because there was nothing else, up until he found the Dragon Helm of Dor-Lomin. This is normally associated with TĂşrin, but if you'll recall, it did actually belong to Maedhros at one point. So he had to wear it - thus creating a Swordmaster without either Elessar or Hammerhand.

Gloves: Maedhros may turn down his uncle's sword, but he's not turning down Fingolfin's handgear.

Boots: Maedhros never found his Dad's boots (big boots to fill...). So he made do with the Boots of the Machine, which in-game are the creation of Petty-Dwarves. That's First Age enough for now.

Ammo: Didn't find Dad's ammo either (hardly surprising given its rarity).

Digger: Only artefacts are Dwarven themed or randart. Ultimately Maedhros wasn't too bothered with that slot.

Anyway, a combination of Thaumaturgy wall creation and Mana area spells worked a treat in the late game, to the point where Maedhros (despite maxxing out Combat, Weaponmastery, and Swordmastery) was starting to play like a mage. The sword came out when his mana was low, or he was wanting to preserve the stuff on the floor from his destructive mana spell. Sauron in particular was dead easy, but Morgoth took two goes, after summoning Vecna and Black Reavers on a small level. It was the sword, rather than the spell that finally killed Morgoth, which Maedhros is extremely happy about. Now he has his revenge, plus the three Silmarils (one in the Nauglamir, two in Morgoth's crown).
