Losing in Telmora's Arena drops your fame by a large amount. Fame affects ability to re-forge. If you are a Death sword or Ring fame is useless!!!My best try at PosChengband 7.0.0's nightmare-mode on Angband.live:

In the meantime, Angels make wonderful ring bearers
Edit: I assumed you were talking about playing Rings. If not, you can get boots of levitation, or a pair of Dragon Wings, or a defender weapon (sometimes). Boots are the most common, but some times you do need to wait a bit. Less common sources of levitation include boots of elvenkind, boots of the fairy, cloak of the bat, etc.Comment

Well my DEW hasn't killed me yet and now I'm getting some jewelry drops, Rings are lots of fun.
Just a few things I've noticed, wands of heal monster are set to autodestroy, not a big deal just thought I'd mention it. The other one is the attack last target in options seems to be really buggy. It attacks random squares/directions for no apparent reason. I just turned it off but it seems to be on in default settings . Anyways back to my magical parasitic adventureLast edited by UglySquirrell; April 10, 2014, 23:30.Comment

I'm not ignoring this ... I just can't reproduce any sort of problemComment

Hmm, may have something to do with my macros, i still use what i did loooong ago. It only happens with ranged spells/wands and it's not just as a ring. I use \e\e\emaa*t or \e\e\ea1*t not sure if i should be keybinding or if there's a better way to complete those actions.Comment

Let's say you run into a monster, and use \emaa*t. That fires magic missile, say, and since there is no target, the *t chooses the closest monster. Great. But your magic missile didn't kill him, of course, so you use the macro again. This time the maa processes and uses your old target (since use_old_target is enabled). After the spell completes, the *t processes and chooses a new target (perhaps the same foe, perhaps not). And on your killing cast, the *t chooses the floor tile you are standing on if there are no other monsters in LOS! This means the next time you run the macro (probably after moving about the dungeon), the maa, since it is using the old target, will fire off into the woods some place
Try \e*tmaa instead. That is, always select your target first before your macro'd spell. Of course, use_old_target then becomes less necessary, but is still useful for some classes with lots of offensive spells, since you might start manually casting stuff.Comment

Old dog, New Trick, and all that i guess. I've been using that macro for bows, and spells since i first started playing X )
It's been so long, i don't even remember where i originally got it from, or if it was just a trial and error hit the monster with the pointy end kind of thing.
Thanks for the macro sample, I'll definitely try it your way.Comment
