There is a partially bugfixed version of 4.0.4 now available for Windows and OS X or as source.

      Bugs fixed:
      • No change in mana on examining an unwielded weapon
      • Fixes to the slay cache (no gameplay effect)
      • You can no longer try and buy with a full pack
      • Randart diggers always get a digging bonus
      • No more spurious death messages for uniques
      • No status messages about monsters after they die
      • Town generation improved, stopping crashes from looking/spellcasting at lava
      • Chests are properly ignored
      • Object info for heal activation fixed
      • No more repeating purchases after leaving a shop
      • Improved efficiency of the object list, which should stop the game slowing down so much when there are a lot of objects on the level

      Bugs not fixed yet:
      • Sound is really patchy
      • Map window issues
      • Command-1 etc to raise OS X term windows not implemented yet
      • Screen update on panel change bug
      • Egavactip's spellcasting-leading-to-movement bug - I still can't reproduce this
      • Obese elves, and Pete's other compile warnings

I am aiming for 4.0.5 to be the final 4.0 release, so the plan is not to release until I have all bugs fixed. This might take a while, so I'll do more interim bugfix builds if necessary.

LOL. Okay, that is out to lunch.

The elf weight is normal though. Seriously. That's a BMI of about 22.

2'2" sounds small even for a hobbit. They are supposed to be about same size as about 10 year kid. I haven't seen any 10 year old that small. Four or close to four feet would be closer what they should be.

For four feet two inches 8 stone 30 lbs would still be too much though.

Yeah at 1m, 143cm tall, 17st, 41lb is fine. Petition for speed to be furlongs per fortnight in future releases.

The "Examine items" list from the tombstone has a duplicate label on each line.

Yes, thanks - I keep noticing that and then forgetting it...

There's a pull request currently on git that fixes Master Mystics/GMMs not having a spider escort as they should. You should probably include that for the 4.0.5 release.

Jumped from 3.5.1 to the latest 4.0 from this thread and played a few quick games. I play with Gervais tileset and noticed two screen redraw bugs/anomalies.

                    1. I'm used to playing with continuous centering. When I move, the character moves first to the adjacent tile, then the backround moves and then the character is returned to the center. This happens very quicky, but is noticeable. And annoying.

                    2. I'm in melee with a monster, and suddenly the monster disappears from sight. Moving restores the monster to view. This has happened a couple of times.

It might be connected with a look command. Here's an image of an invisible ooze.

In Linux X11, my messages become corrupt whenever any message contains a non-ASCII symbol. I get similar behavior with other parts of the interface (e.g., equipment and inventory lists, object list, monster list, item inspection). Sometimes these corruptions lead to crashes, which are always repeatable, but can be worked around by not doing that again (don't request a monster list while Khamul is visible).

Message corruption never crashes the game, but those other buffer do. Looking at stack dumps, it seems these things occur variably sized buffers are allocated.

I've observed this in 4.0.4 and top of tree. I didn't play 4.0.3, and I did not observe in 4.0.2. I can load up wizard more and get some stack dumps if you are unable to reproduce.

i am presuming that this is a bug; see screenshot.

For some reason "detect monsters" spell doesn't always show detected monsters in monster list subwindow. It shows them correctly in main window.

Thanks for pointing the difference out - that might help track that one down.

                              Other bugs:
                              • Monster twice in the list - yes
                              • X11 crashing - we had that problem with OS X for a bit. I'll look into it
                              • Tiles disappearing, usually under the cursor - verified, I thought it had been fixed (it certainly used to be more common). Haven't seen it on other tilesets, which is odd.
                              • Flicker on centering - I can observe that, but only just. Which precise version are you playing? There have been some speedups since 4.0.4 which might help.
                              • spider pull request has been pulled in, as have a few other outstanding ones
                              • All the bugs I hadn't fixed in the last post are untouched, although I am looking at PowerWyrm's fix for windows sound

I'm currently playing the most recent partially bugfixed 4.0.4 linked to this thread. The file downloaded is angband-4.0-release.zip. I'm playing on Debian.

I did not observe any flickering at all with previous (pre 4.0) versions so I find it a bit annoying. Then again, I'm getting used to playing with the setting off .

Here's an image showing the screen after "detect monsters" spell, if it's of any use. The jelly is detected, but not visible in the monster list window down right.
