    I'm guessing it's because the town is so wide-open and your rest is interrupted if a mob appears nearby -- in the dungeon you can probably find an uninhabited corner with a very low chance that anything will stumble across your hiding spot.

      Yep, plus it also tends to reset the stuff in the stores so you might find something useful in them. I pretty much never need to leave my initial spot in the dungeon.

                One thing that I found helpful for winning was ...diving deep and fast. As long as you are a) detecting all the time b) +20 speed c) have good escape for when anything that you even think might kill you comes along diving is going to be your best bet for getting stat potions and better magic items.
                I recently won with a competition character that had to be played ironman style ( i.e you can only go down)...and even without being able to restock potions I was able to win....although I must admit finding a vault at 5000' and being able to use spells in creative ways enabled me to survive my encounter with Morgoth and eventually kill him. Many times I thought my character would die but I was always able to avoid fights that I couldn't win and take advantage of the situation.
                I guess the best advice I could give would be to think outside the box and never fight fair if you can help it !

                  So I've managed to progress this character a little bit. I've raised my CON up to a more acceptable level, and have gotten myself a better weapon. Still awaiting items with more dex so I can get my swings up.

                  I'm currently on a level with a promising looking vault. Inside are 2 Uniques (Witch-King Angmar and Ungoliant), both of which I'm fairly sure I'm not ready to fight yet. Everything else inside looks pretty manageable. My question is, does Teleport Other work normally inside a vault? My thinking is if I can burrow in next to where the uniques are and teleport them away I should be able to kill the rest and hopefully come away with some nice loot. I'm just afraid of doing something stupid and getting myself killed.

                    Teleport away will work, but maybe difficult. Both uniques might summon their minions which could block the line of sight. With your stealth probably both of them will be awake.

                      I'm assuming it's a relatively open vault rather than a single cell or corridor-based jobbie.

                      You've got a cruising speed of +20 but you don't have any temporary haste about your person. It appears that you've got all the necessary resists bar blindness.

                      Ungo can do a lot of damage, quickly. If I were Raaj I'd teleport her away and forget about her until such time as I had greater speed.

                      The Witch King himself is a bit of a weakling, but he'll summon any remaining ringwraiths and major undead. Teleport him, finish the vault, then go looking for him. Lure him in a winding corridor of your own construction and he's mincemeat (although he'll probably teleport you away a few times, just to make it more interesting). But, as Mondkalb says, if there are line of sight problems from the outset then I'd be ready to bail out of the vault/level very, very fast. No-one likes a room full of nightwalkers.

                        Thanks for the advise. I've got +25 speed atm, but I'm weighed down with a bunch of random loot I picked up in the last dungeon level or 2. I could drop some stuff temporarily if that extra 5 speed will make a big difference. I usually keep some speed potions and/or a staff of speed on me, but I have them all dumped at home while I was doing some inventory management, and didn't think I'd need them right away.

                        I may give Angmar a go. If he gets off a big summon before I can get him lured into an ASC I have the activate on Eowne I can use.

                            You're not kidding - it happened to me last night clearing a different vault. Fortunately nothing I lost was particularly tragic. Was crap I was likely to sell, and I really don't need gold anymore at this point anyway.

                                Did they reduce the number of Glyphs of Warding (Rune of Protection) you can have in the new version (3.4.x)? Because, if not, both of them are doable.

                                The Witch-King of Angmar is easy for a high level Priest. All you have to do is prep a tunnel (3 different designs) filled with Glyphs let him and and Orb him to death. You could also chop him to death with Eonwe if that is your preference. Should also work with Ungoliant.

                                The simplest is the typical zig-zag anti-summoning tunnel. Each time the Glyph is broken, back up to the next one and start blasting/chopping again when he/she is adjacent.
