    Hey, I did two stupid things yesterday with my Hobbit Rogue (I didn't die, though). I was in the middle of a fight with Feagwath when I hit 'q' and was told I had no potions. Yep, I swapped my Healing potions out when I was changing my gear upstairs and forgot to pick them up again. Needless to say I ended that fight.

    Later, after I killed Omarax on L80, I ran across a Greater Balrog (avoided) and a Multi-Hued Dragon Pit on the same level (avoided), I figured I had run across everything that caused the level feeling. So, I went over to 1-hit this lone Stone Giant. After I hit him a couple of rounds, he was still alive. At this point I looked at him and it was Atlas. Right then, so after retreating and turning him into a pin-cushion, I decided to stop before making a lethal mistake.

    Sorry about your character but you aren't alone in making mistakes.

      I was hoping to at least scrape one win from it before upgrading to 3.4.1, which I understand has been made a touch more difficult.

        Why don't you start a new character and give the Angband 3.5-dev spawn a try? It has a smoother start in my opinion, I had less trouble finding useful stuff in the beginning.

                I generally leave my low-health warning at 50%; that usually leaves me enough of a buffer to let me know when I should start paying more attention.

                (Of course, even 50% isn't enough to protect you from a surprise more-than-your-max-HP breath attack, so you can't ever afford to be truly careless in Angband...)

                    Typically I do but there were monsters nearby so I couldn't. Not sure what posessed me to try to run in the first place. Just lack of focus I suppose.

                      There are certain disturbance settings you can change, although I find myself in similar situations in O. Sometimes, monsters are scary when they move no matter where they are.

                          Well, here I am again. This time on a Kobold Rogue. Down around dlvl 85, gear is getting pretty decent. Forced to use an ESP amulet as I have never found any other source yet surprisingly. Running pretty low on some consumables as I've spent a lot on a few unique fights.

                          My plan is to dive down to lvl 98 and farm around for a while. There's still a lot of things I don't want to fight, but I've been trying to keep enough sources of teleport other on me to whisk them away as I try to steal whatever loot their guarding.

                          Is it a good idea for me to got that deep at this point, or should I hang back a bit?

                            You can't get any more HPs apart from level ups.
                            I would dive. Just be careful, consideríng your resistance holes.
                            Btw, it doesn't get that much more dangerous, barring uniqes.

                              Yeah, I keep a swap chest piece (Himring) on me that covers nether and chaos, I have Anduril on hand to swap in for my weapon for disenchant, and I keep Firestar on hand when I need fire immunity. I find myself dancing through my gear a lot depending on what I'm fighting.
