41st level is a bit late to /start/ scumming the top of the Dragon's Lair, but this Android has progressed quickly. Early game sucked, of course, with no detection, so I quickly scummed enough power for the Cloning Pits. Lucky early telepathy has made this "warrior" more enjoyable to play. So far, I don't find imitation powers very useful ...

Well, OK, after a Bile Wyrm breathed on me, I stored a 1199 acid breath that quickly decayed down to 599hp. But when I spied Glaurung, I did a double revenge (failing the first time, so it cost me 200hp to cast). That was pretty neat ...

Double revenge breathe fire for 2314hp ... Nice, but its not really that reproducible. Still, taking 7 stars off a sleeping Ice Wyrm in one move is rather satisfying :)

I killed Brand hoping for his crossbow, but got his sword instead. Werewindle allows me to shuffle equipment leveling from 40 to 45 in the process, so I think it is worth wearing, even if it ends my dragon scumming for the moment. Its a good weapon for unique quest monsters, so back to Angband.

I *hate* Werewindle :) Damn chaos brand ...

So, after struggling a bit on Daoloth for my DL50 quest, I decided to try dual wielding a bit. I went with my nifty mace (+1 attack, vampiric) and Runespear, and was working on my skill when I ran across a GCV! Now, I didn't get far thru the vault, just enough to score Nain, Lohengrin and Numenor, which is enough for all resistances and CL49!!! I need to put off dual wielding though ...

My best kit was probably the previous post ... except I only had about 770hp for CL49, which is pathetic for a class without healing or double resistance. So when Grayswandir showed up, I decided to go back to dual wielding, skimming the top of the lair for significant opponents to train against. Still, I can't break thru 'Skilled', either on my dual wielding skill, or on any of my weapons. Lack of disenchantment resistance was proving problematic, and Werewindle is too annoying, so I went and cleared the Graveyard. My seeker bolts came in useful against a blinking Vecna, but when he summoned a dozen or so greater L's I had to flee. Fortunately, Vecna separated, and I killed him after rolling thru the 4 or so uniques he also summoned earlier.

But dual wielding seems weak for this character. It takes heroism and holy chant just to get 40% accuracy. I should go back to single wielding, but I might as well max out my skills now since I have already invested so heavily in the task, and maybe I'll want to dual wield later once I've found 2 rings of power, fingolfin, brand, feanor, aule and vorpal blade ;D

I finally maxed out my dual wielding skill, and quickly switched to single wielding! Well, with this kit, I can exceed 72% accuracy vs AC 175, and without any boosts, I'm like 60% accuracy. Dual wielding I'm like 15% accuracy vs AC175 unless I go heroic and blessed to top off at 40% ... Numerically, damage output is similar, so dual wielding is not so compelling an option right now, despite my Expert skill.

This character is tough. I managed to kill a Great Wyrm of Chaos, but just barely. 2 breaths will will kill me, and I'd rather not squander all my healing just yet. Lohengrin helps, but I guess I want Amber too :)

Between Lohengrin and Yata-no-Kagami, I am now solidly constructed. Lohengrin is like 3.5M cp and the mirror is nearly 4.0M cp. Guess I have to use 'em :)

Without the 777hp healing from Lohengrin, I doubt I could kill much. As it is, I scum for the recharge, and then fight. 1 good solid healing seems to be required in every battle for this class ...

Cambeleg is an improvement. Actually, 624hp/round damage is pretty darn good. I just need better stats, and its not clear where they will come from! Well, surely there is +7 str and +8 con lurking someplace I haven't looked yet :)

Imitation powers aren't compelling enough for me to give up on the berserk activation from my ring. Maybe later? Currently, it is mostly heavy elemental breaths versus dragons that double resist, and that hardly seems worth the bother ...

OK, there is always this approach, giving up stealth altogether, as well as both the mirror and Lohengrin. Still, it is a fun way to play, just probably not very smart :)

+33 base speed, 1100HP, and 705 damage/turn not counting brands or slays...

I don't know Heng, but in most variants that's overkill.

Yeah, Chris, you definitely have a tendency to overkill the endgame (I think you're the only person I know who bothers clearing all the uniques before taking on the Serpent). Here's your next challenge: Beat the game with minimum speed!

That last dump was more of a joke dump ... I wouldn't really consider playing that way for long, because the aggravation would eventually kill me. I would call the base speed +23 on that dump, not +33, and when fighting the Serpent, you will be hard pressed to keep yourself hasted, as he will cast Dispel Magic every few turns. I usually shoot for +30 base speed, +40 hasted. The Serpent is +35 speed, so ideally, you should try to match that.

Damage output was also misleading as my accuracy was not very good with dual wielding ... This character is taking about a 30% accuracy penalty for dual wielding over single wielding, so I guess I haven't found the right stuff yet.

Here is my real post, and yes, this guy is powerful enough to kill many things provided I am willing to commit lots of resources (healing and *healing*). I prefer to save those as much as possible for a few choice battles.

+18 base speed will just kill you in the end game. Double moves in hengband are very common, and taking >1000hp from a couple of mana storms from Shuma Gorath or Nodens is a definite concern. Damage output is good, but hp are poor at only 901. A Great Wyrm of Chaos can kill me with a double move as things stand ...

Godzilla is a pretty low tier unique by Hengband standards, and I was scarcely a match for him ... Probably I needed 20 !healing to stand a chance. Oh well ...

Ithaqua, Yig and the Norsa (especially the Norsa) were all also extremely close kills. The Norsa had me down to 200hp when I failed activation on the rod of healing 3 times in a row (I was out of !healing again ... probably I just needed to carry more?), so it was only a matter of time before death.

Really, you can't go from a life high mage to a non-healing character. It is just too traumatic!
