My first chaos warrior. Killing stuff will be more fun once I find a better weapon. My first superb feeling led to nothing more than an orc pit. Now that I have TO I can get deeper, and hopefully luckier.

I've found a couple of odd weapons, like the spider fang stored in my home. I've never found anything like 'em before. Are these unique to chaos warriors? Should I be using them despite thier inferior damage? They don't seem to possess any hidden powers.

Looks like junk. (It does 12 throwing damage, but your bow is already comparable.)

If you enchant it, it will do
3*(9+2)*2 = 66 throwing damage.
That might be worth keeping, if you can find a stack.

Giant spider fangs and other bone weapons can be in any game (not only for that class], but they aren't common. They come in useful most often as a priest or druid with an edged weapon penalty (which doesn't apply to bone weapons].
Vasp stingers are better for throwing (also have intrinsic poison brand and sometime come in small stacks].

CL24, DL25. Stumbled, quite accidentally, upon the BDSM. Still looking for a remove curse (for the amulet of teleport control), and some restore stat potions. The town has been severely lacking of late.

DL25 CL30. I've been getting my butt kicked at DL30. I just picked up a big stack of teleport level back in town. That should help with survival. I'm having no luck controlling my teleportation with the amulet of teleport control. I guess I'm just too stupid. Ditto staff of power. Ditto BDSM activation. My lack of basic resists should become a really big problem from here on out. Ditto lack of FA. Ditto lack of SI. Come to think of it, maybe I am a little too deep. Daj IS cruel.

On 6.1.2010 06:57 will_asher wrote:
that's not cool. I don't mind the early levels being harder (because the early levels are really easy in vanilla), and I'm pretty sure occational cruelty is mandatory for variant designers, but generally I intended DJA to be a little bit easier than vanilla. I guess some of my other ideas conflict with that..

Teleport control slowly gets easier the longer you have it and is influenced by magic device skill.
Knight classes (which includes the chaos warrior) have worse magic device skill than any other classes IIRC.

Hey I wonder if I'd have an easier time winning vanilla after getting used to DJA if DJA is harder.

On 6.1.2010 15:14 buzzkill wrote:
Don't change a thing. The world need more cruel maintainers, and variants that are genuinely *difficult* to beat. That would be every almost variant for me, but that's just me. Also, don't try gain insight by reviewing my gameplay. I'm notoriously bad at finding useful items. Plus speed, what's that?

Seriously though, struggling for progress makes the game dangerous and therefore fun. Although I'm not making much progress, I am making progress and I feel that I'm accomplishing something. My kit is slowly improving (baby steps not giant jumps). I'm using a ton of found consumables, sleep, slow, confuse. I love these things being useful, rather than just squelchable. When is the last time anybody walked halfway across the dungeon to pick up a staff of sleep monsters in V?
Keep up the good work!!!

QUOTE "Teleport control slowly gets easier the longer you have it and is influenced by magic device skill."

Do I need to keep wearing the amulet for it to "get easier", because right now I'm swapping it in and out as the situation dictates (or am I just expecting too much from my magic skill)?

On 6.1.2010 19:10 will_asher wrote:
To be more presice, it gets slightly easier every time you succeed in controlling the teleportation (but it cannot get to 100%), which obviously you can only do while wearing the amulet.

I've noticed you've been using quarterstaffs without a shield for an extra blow. What do you think of double weapons? I've never been sure if that was a worthwhile thing to add..

On 7.1.2010 05:53 buzzkill wrote:
I haven't found a worthwhile shield yet, so not using one isn't much of an imposition. I could get two blows with a variety of lightweight weapons, but so far the quarterstaff has the highest damage output (and I've yet to find a better brand than venom, which I've found three of).

Damn it. YASD. Low on consumables I read recall and tried to pick up one more item, on this superb level, before it kicked it. Ran into a white unicorn and didn't realize how dangerous it was. I tried to sleep it, which I knew was low probability. It resisted and moved faster than I thought and literally kicked me to death. I should have read TL as was my first instinct. Greed did me in again. This was a good effort by my standards.

You made the mistake of underestimating it..
