Golem power! I love golems, almost as much as I love Sexy. Golems get an innate bonus to AC (up to 30), and they get Stone Skin, which means a total of a whopping +80 AC for classes without access to Stoneskin! It makes hunting the Tower after skipping the Vault a lot more doable.

Built up 3.3 million gold; it's time to shop (thanks Chris for the macro tip!)

Cloning Pits complete! I had another comedy gold moment... when my AMHD evolved into a GWoMC in the Cloning Pits while I was farming Giant Red Ants to build Riding skills! The auras almost killed me (down to 60 HP) before I realized what was happening. Oy, need to go grab another dragon now.

Previous to that, I went into Vapor Quest intent on getting Berserk Self... and of course decided enough was enough when I picked up Harden to Elements, Panic Hit, and Telepathy. Downsides are -3 DEX and "Faster or Slower randomly".. the latter may not be a problem for an endgame Cavalry though.

Hm... to ride a GWoP, I'll need 3 immunites... Narya, Nenya, and Vilya could provide 2 of the 3... though I've never found Vilya before! So the last is probably too much to ask for. Indra gives *Elec, but Terror Mask is really nice. So... I'll need the last immunity from weapon, shooter, gloves, armor, cloak, or boots. Looking hard...

Razorback ... Complete R'lyeh!!! Also, you can just quaff !Resistance for the final battle and it won't matter, so keep that GWoP in a capture ball to swap mounts.

Mounts so far:

1: Starting Horse, survived until Tower
1.5: Unruly Horse in Tower, was killed within 10 turns of being mounted.
2: AMHD, used until it evolved into a GWoMC in the Cloning Pits, at which point it became unusable because of its auras.
3: Steel Dragon. Tons of AC, tons of HP, speed a little slow at +9, but is pretty much indestructible. Used until I found Mount 4 in the Lair.
4: GWoSpaceTime (current). +16 speed, and occassionally hastes self. Good amount of HP and AC, but lacks RBase.

Hm... what to switch to for 5? I saw a lot of people use Lords of Change as their next pet.

.. but my final pet will definitely be the Greater Cyber Dragon Angel Daemon Lich! +40 base speed and *EVERY* ability in the game!

My GWoST is great (most of the time). He can breath Inertia to slow monsters, and he is surprisingly robust... I would have thought that the elemental breaths of Great Hell Wyrms and the like would be annoying, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Recently found: Stormbringer, Cloak of Jack, and Hurin. None seem to be worth using right now (I considered Jack's cloak for the +Stealth, but I seem to be doing fine with Superb stealth.)

It's so weird!!! The monsters aren't automatically awake and summoning! I mistook a Yellow light for the Stone of Lore because it wasn't moving, lol.

Near-disaster! Saw Norsa on level 70 on my way to the lvl 76 quest, and decided I should be able to take it down. Well, I was buff enough to withstand its elemental breaths, but my GWoST was not. So Mount 4 died in the line of duty, and I got reduced from +29 speed down to +7 speed (eek!). Worse, I didn't have any !oSpeed with me (EEEK!!). Worse yet, Walken was awake and not too far away (EEEEEEEKKKK!!!!)

Norsa was down to 2 stars when my mount died, however, and I still had a decent amount of HP as well as a good anti-summoning corridor set up. So I continued at it, quaffing !oHealing liberally, intent on reading ?oTeleportLevel if any of my double resistances vanished (being level 44, I get a random 4 resistances with Harden to Elements, and by Hardening multiple times, I get all 5. However, when they expire, 1 will expire first, and the other 4 expire together).

Managed to kill it, and it dropped a few artifacts, the only notable one being Slayer. I would use it, except GaeBolg is providing RLight and RDark. With a shadow cloak, perhaps...

Just got my first immunity, thanks to Combat Echizen, who provided a randart cloak with *Elec. Looking at the spoilers, Eowne provides *Cold, so I would only need that and Narya to use a GWoP.

Yeah, the Unicorn of Order kicked my butt. I don't know what I was thinking even trying without bringing my Mushrooms of Restoration. Ah well.

Obligatory lvl 50 post. Despite the Lucky personality, I haven't really gotten any real equipment upgrades since about level 42. (Even the cloak is a very minor upgrade, since I already have Harden to Elements).

I have huge gaping holes in resistances... I'm covering everything except RSound, but just barely. GaeBolg is contributing 3 resistances exclusively, and I have to rely on my Amulet of Resistance for RShard.

Fights are getting quite hard. I'm quite rapidly going through my stock of !oHealing, down to 24 now from somewhere near 40 not long ago. Every high level unique is costing significant resources, and I'm always running out of !oCCW despite lugging around 50+ on the way down.

Hm, it might be time to swap my Robe of Permanence for Balance DSM, although that would lose me my sustains.

Victory! I got tired of hunting around for better equipment, and I really really didn't want to get my !oHealing stock to get ground to nothing. So I went ahead and attacked Oberon. He dropped Thror, which was generated with RShard, so that allowed another round of equipment swaps.

Going into the fight with the Serpent, I brought the following:

3x 99 ?oTeleport, 3x 99 !oCCW, 24 !oHealing, 15 !o*Healing*, 2 !oLife, 13 ,oRestoring, 15 ?o*Destruction*, 5 _o*Destruction*, 12 ?oRecharging, 3 ?oGenocide, 3 ?oMassGenocide, and 2 -oHealing.

Looking at the after count, I used about 50 ?oTeleport, 180 !oCCW, 9 !oHealing, 6 !o*Healing*, 8 ?oRecharging, 4 ?oDestruction, 1 ?oGeno, and 2 ?oMassGeno. And of course, both Healing Rod charges and about 30 charges of Destruction of staves.

At one point, I was really scared because the Serpent was at 6 stars, and my mount was down to 1. So I teleported and threw a !oHealing against the wall. It said my mount feels better, but didn't recover a full star. Hm, he has 3500 HP, so 300 is slightly less than a star. So I threw 2 !o*Healing* against the wall next, and he recovered to 8 stars.

I killed the Serpent afterwards without too much problems, mostly using Panic Hit whenever I got to around 500 HP, and then quaffing !oHealing and !oCCW to patch up as the Serpent reapproached me.

Summons included Great Cthulu, Cyberdemons x2, and wyrms, but these were easily taken care of: I would teleport, the serpent would approach my new position, and then I would teleport back and _o*Destruct* the summons.

Thoughts on cavalry: Things become much easier after you capture your first AMHD. Training riding skill in the Arena is good, but may cause your pet to evolve. Your left hand is used to control the mount, so the combat bonuses from the left ring do not count.

Great Wyrm of Space-Time is surpringly good as a mount despite lack of Rbase, because it resists inertia, so it cannot be slowed. Plus, it breathes inertia and slows your foes. Not so good against the Norsa though.

I don't know how Chris manages to build up resources around dlvl 95. I keep getting embroiled in fights and having to use resources. For me, it's better just to go for the Serpent as soon as I can kill it.

Not sure how much my Lord of Change actually damaged the Serpent. I think for Cavalry, the mount serves 3 main roles: (1) damage sink. Half of the enemy attacks hit your mount, so it's like having double the HP! (2) speed source. Because your speed is based on your mount, your character has no need for speed (other than when the mount falls in the line of duty). This potentially frees up a lot of slots for other equipment. (3) Ranged nuker. Breaths can kill piles of weak enemies from a distance.

Against strong bosses though, the mount doesn't seem to do too much damage... but that maybe because I didn't use a GWoPower.

Yeah, OK, no. Heaven and Hell are nightmarish. Mages and Priests and Chaos-Warriors might be able to do it with lots of Word of Destruction, but not a poor little Cavalry.

Nice win, and in only 14 hours no less! Regarding resources, I tend to play stealthy characters with passwall. Both of these will assist in choosing battles. With enlightenment from the Jewel, you can spend an hour or two recall scumming for goodies.

I agree with your mount comments. A Lord of Change is a good sturdy mount (resist base), but not the best for dishing out damage. It is also rather fragile in battles vs. Unicorn/Nodens/Serpent/etc.

Did you find any good lances? A vanilla Heavy Lance is a 6d8 weapon for the cavalrist, which is pretty good (better than Slayer vs evil, not counting the extra attacks of course). Another early game trick is to capture a Law Drake then let it evolve vs. Granite Walls. In about 10 minutes, you will have a Great Wyrm of Law pet which is useful for a late CL20s character!

A final comment on relying too much on your mount for speed. I think you had a similar experience vs. the Norsa except you survived. But I had a cavalrist squaring off vs Nodens. I had 1000hp, and my mount was at something like 4 stars when Nodens double mana stormed my mount, killing it, and throwing me rudely to the ground with only something like +4 speed. Nodens continued with the multimove, rolling thru all my hp. I think I got quintuple moved in the end, but mostly, one should not be facing Nodens with only +4 speed!

Any way, congratulations on the win!

Hi Chris,

I did not actually find any interesting Heavy Lances in the course of this game (I had specially changed my pickup file to pick up all "heavy lances" too!). By interesting, I mean an ego with a big +todam mod. I think a big part of the reason is because I've been starting to avoid vaults entirely... With poor stealth, vaults quickly turn into deathtraps filled with Sky Drakes, GWoST, and Nycademons, and Nightcrawlers. It's a lot easier to get my equipment by killing ancient wyrm pits!

Not sure what to play next. I made a cursory attempt on Blue Mage, and then killed it off because it felt like a very gimped version of Magic Eater. I mean, come on, Blue Mages are weak enough as it is, being a Mage class without access to Detection or Healing or Resistance... not even Eat Magic to recover SP for offense sustainability? That's just poor design.
