Recalled and *id*. Probably my best monk start ever! Shield has my two favorite extra resistances (PoNx), I scored a Wis +2 amulet, see invisible, and wand of teleport other all in my first trip down! Wow! Makes me want to dive into the DL12 quest ...

Proudfeet are a scummy sort of hobbit. When I hit CL28 and cast Self Knowledge, I was indeed dejected. Int base 18/130 and Chr base 18/120. This left Wis and Con both base 18/70, and I would say these are the two stats that this character cannot afford to have biffed. Dex is hardly a problem, given my +5 race/class/personality net effect (and add +4 for shiva's boots!). Str is important, but I can live without it. So, all this did was encourage me to scum, and scum I did.

Life repaired at last:
Life Rating: 108%
STR : 18/110
INT : 18/80
WIS : 18/90
DEX : 18/90
CON : 18/130
CHR : 18/100

So I gained 6 points of con, 2 points of wisdom and lost 1 point of strength. Not bad ...

Now, since I also scored my 3rd craft book, its time to go die at the top of the dragon's lair again!

Hobbit Power! I love Crimson. But now, where am I to find disenchantment resistance?

Super fast. Pure monkey goodness :)
Now, where is my disenchantment resistance. With all this wonderfulness, I'd hate to see some tarnish.

OK, that's alot of power, way quick. I'm still 38% fail on passwall, though. But most higher elemental dragons are dead before I take even 100hp of damage. Crazy power!

On 26.9.2009 16:19 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:

I got served a tiny slice of humble pie from Nidhogg. I actually got hurt down to 380hp and had to take a step back to regen my hp before finishing the job. Probably, he snuck in a darkness breath there, but I wasn't reading the messages.

Brand dropped his crossbow, but its doubtful that an extra +6 speed is worth losing poison and nether resistance as well as +4 stealth. Maybe later, but I doubt it. Monks have a hard time covering all resistances. (Actually, give me a shadow cloak and I'm not too bad!)

Passwall is now 41% fail, which is devastatingly bad. If I'm currently in the walls, OK, I just keep resting and trying. Its just getting into the walls that is problematic. That's where Legendary[5] stealth really helps. Seems like if I fail the spell once, then I fail up to 6 times in a row, usually at least 4 in a row. Annoying! Well, I'll hit CL50 soon enough ...

How did I kill the Norsa? Well, it was actually quite easy! Gotta love the craft. On the downside, I didn't get anything of use :( Oh, well. There is still Tiamat and Santa Claus to slay. One of those will surely drop Thorin with a random disenchantment resistance, no?

On 26.9.2009 18:02 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:
Boy, Gerard just cursed me with 3 cyberdemons and a spectral wyrm. No statue, thank goodness. I think I better leave amberites alone for now ... They are scarcely a threat while alive (with a few exceptions), but their dying blood curse is often the end of many a promising character.

On 26.9.2009 18:16 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote:

I'm lucky to have survived that awful blood curse! Teleport, dispel curse, then truck on back to easily dispatch the spectral wyrm and 3 cyberdemons (all 1v1, of course) for a quick 200k xp.

Tiamat obliged with the Palantir, which is wonderful as it solves my passwall problem. I'm probably 16% fail at the moment, but I haven't checked in a while. Rings of speed have been disappointing, going +4 then +5 and now +3. None of which is attractive enough to give up either of my current rings. And a nice dragon shield popped up allowing me to switch to brand until I can solve my speed issues. Its a bit heavy at 10lbs, so I'll probably need to lose it at some point ... probably when I find Thorin, right? :)

Now that I can see which uniques are on the level, I can hunt them down. I should be able to get something like 150 or 160 of them this way at the bottom of the lair.

I've come a long way since leaving the shire. Now, it seems there is nothing I just don't obliterate with my monk power. I'll sit down here and thin out uniques ... maybe another 70 or so. Every level has 4-5 of them, so its going pretty smoothly. I'd like to cover light for those Sky Drakes ... maybe I should wear Numenor? I'd prefer Amber, though!

I'm running the quests in Angband, having become bored of the dragon's lair and my hopeless pursuit for a decent ring of speed.

But check it out: Every resistance is covered exactly once in my current kit (except blindness, which I lack). Talk about efficiency :)

Ouch! I don't think that is going to happen!

The Destroyer was my DL88 quest, and he was pretty tame for me. Of course, bringing Perseus to swap for reflection helped. 2 !Healing, 4 charges of _Healing, 1 charge of -Healing.

Probably, I have enough power to win with? I just need to clear the scores of remaining uniques, and probably score a better ring of speed. Mr. Wong finally provided me with a +8 (Rings went +4,+5,+3,+5,+5,+8,+6). I guess that's not too abnormal ...

I'm trying to dive deeper ... really! Super pattern vault with a GWoP in the middle. I spot the mirror I so love (+3 Wis, Reflection, Telepathy). But first, the GWoP goes nuts trying to save the world from the forces of evil. Swarms of dragons then start popping out of the vault, and I mop up for a bit (First I had to kill Yog-Sothoth, though). The net for the mop up was the 4th book and the 1st ring of power. Not a bad haul, so I destructed to pick up my mirror. Now I'm not so vulnerable to a stray moronification!

So, dive!

I love monks ... They are so much fun to play. And any class that can just flat out handle Nodens is sure to warm my heart. I hate that guy, and good thing I am powerful enough to make him look stupid! I did have to -Heal, though.

Cantoras hooked me up with the 2nd ring of power and a +10 ring of speed. So I'm really coming along now. 2 trips to Zul thanks to Y'golonac and the GHMMWQ. Maybe I should just play as a moron?

Thorin. Amber. All resistances. +42 speed. What is stopping me? Well, only Ymir remains wanted. I'd like to at least patch up my shadow cloak before the final showdown.

Yeah, that'll do. Next post either death or a winner!

Very easy! Playing monks is probably the most fun I've ever had! They start slow, but have access to such tremendous endgame melee power. All the annoyances are trivialized by their Crushing Blows. OK, perhaps are a tad over powered? But if you are looking for fun, they can't be beat. Plus a 12 hour game is about the right length, IMHO.
