Hey. After a year long break, I decided to give this game another try. So far very good HP rolled.
Just sold a weapon for 5K$, and spent it on a second RoP and a bunch of enchantment scrolls. With the half-decent AC I got I will move to DL 9 or so and take out some of the weaker uniques.

On 11.2.2006 12:07 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Killed most of the early uniques, so far no artifacts or ego items found. I'm reluctant to go much deeper without at least Free Action. Swapped one of the RoPs with RoS +3; it should help considerably with the weight limit.

On 12.2.2006 00:39 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Got Holcolleth, and recently Thengel, with ego armor to cover the standard resists. Unfortunately, I am unable to find any source for Free Action. I've been sitting on DL 17-18 for ages now. I got into a melee fight with a Homunculus, so even these levels aren't REALLY safe. at CL27, levelling has slowed to a crawl. Once this issue is resolved I will dive to the statgain area.

On 12.2.2006 03:16 garrieirons@hotmail.com wrote:
Get over it if you have played before. I dived with a halftroll warrior to 1100 on my first descent - don't stand and fight just pick up the loot and keep moving.
a good weapon will come if you go deep enough!

On 13.2.2006 22:10 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Finally got FA ring on the market, now with HA weapon and some artifacts I can now park at statgain. Missing fire and poison resist with my current gear but it doesn't seem like much of a problem.

On 14.2.2006 22:38 drchung@Rcn.com wrote:
One can do without poison resistance for quite a while; IMO it is quite reasonable to run around at dl40 without it. Not having RFire is more worrisome, though you should be able to find a o=RFire pretty easily. I'd swap it in for the RoP. You have enough hp that it probably won't kill you until you are deeper, though you'll want to have it before you running into ancient reds.

On 17.2.2006 21:25 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Holy shit. I just found a ring of speed (+14) lying on the floor of the dungeon...wow. Now since I still ain't got poison resist, I will keep from going past DL40. IIRC it takes both poison and nether resists to be safe below DL40-45

On 17.2.2006 23:08 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
I can't believe my luck. within less than two hours of play since that +14 speed ring, I got boots of speed (+2), Rohirrim from Queen Ant and then Cambeleg from a mature dragon!

On 18.2.2006 01:11 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
I got Glamdring and Theoden now, can't determine which is better to use. I'm leaning towards Glamdring atm simply because it seems to do more damage, though the telepathy given by Theoden is nice. The HA weapon, my source for see invis, was destroyed by fire while being in inventory, and somehow the rest of my gear doesnt cover that.

On 18.2.2006 16:43 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
Theoden could be better weapon, it has lesser damage, but gives you more CON, also allows you to swap amulet of wisdom. Also, it has ESP. Although it isn't blessed, I doubt thta it has no significant effect on spell points nor fail rate on important spell (OoD, heal 300p)

On 18.2.2006 20:59 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
I just found Feanor on the floor at DL42...+31 permenant speed...seems almost too good to be real :)
Now I'm just worried that it might get disenchanted - one time (before I got it) I accidently moved next to a death mold that was sitting behind a closed door. It disenchanted Glamdring, Caspanion and my bow all on the same round. It'll be such a shame to lose the +20 on Feanor!
I wanted to know if disenchantment resistence protects items completely? should I keep from using Feanor for now, until I get that resistence and a better level?
I guess in the meantime I'll keep Theoden on at all times. With ESP I will immediately teleport other anything that might try disenchanting my stuff.

On 19.2.2006 00:37 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
I found an elvenkind shield with chaos resistence
Is it true that chaos res automatically gives confusion res?
Anyway, I'm keeping Feanor safe at home until I get disenchantment resistence and better CL.

On 19.2.2006 05:16 garrieirons@hotmail.com wrote:
confusion resistance has been a bit on-and-off depending upon version (that is, with chaos resistance). I think if you have chaos resistance then you won't be confused as a result of a chaos effect but I think you still need rConf as well. Good to see you seem to be diving pretty quick!

On 19.2.2006 09:57 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
Why on Arda you aren't wearing Feanor? Also, Theoden would give you more hp. Priest shouldn't melee, so big damege is useless. So, swap Glamdring to Theoden. Also, consider using =oRpoison + Rohirrim instreead of =oSlaying + Caspanion.

On 19.2.2006 16:47 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
I'm concerned Feanor will get disecnanted, since AC bonuses can be recovered only up to 15.

swapping Glamdring, =oSlaying, Caspanion to Theoden, =oRpoison, Rohirrim would leave CON as is, and give rSound, rFear, ESP, but would make my melee worse. Seems like a good trade overall, thanks.

On 20.2.2006 05:02 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
why to care about AC? And there are only few disenchanter breathers, you can easily avoid them, also avoid those who disenchant in melee, fight them in ranged attacks.

I'd still go for theoden to maximize hp, since priest doesn't need to do much melee damage. also it gives ESP, which helps to avoid monsters / pick up your fights.

On 22.2.2006 23:19 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Got Thorin and Arkenstone after a tough fight vs. Ar-Pharazon. I decided to wear my best gear now instead of waiting for disenchantment resist. Missing Nether and Shards res, but otherwise everything's easy as pie with +33 speed. By the way I found two artifact bows in two adjacent floor tiles inside a minivault, but I'm still using heavy xbow and Bolts of wounding.

Reached DL60 (that's my best ever). Tried fighting Saruman, it didn't quite work. Should I dive any deeper? Still missing nether res, disenchantment res, and the two last spellbooks.

On 24.2.2006 10:46 wrote:
Disenchantment resist isn't neccessary, but nice in that you don't have to pay too much attention to what might disenchant your stuff.

Without RNether though, you have to worry about taking 550 damage all of a sudden. Even with it, you still have to worry about taking 471 damage instantly, so it's not all that big a win. I'd dive to level 70 and start looking for a the first ring of power which covers RNether.

On 24.2.2006 13:21 silvatar_flood@yahoo.com wrote:
Recently got a ton of new Artifacts from DL68-70. I'm not sure what gear to use now. Got RoS +10, and then a RoS +12, so I threw away the +10 :) Extra speed from Cubragol doesn't seem to matter much, so I'm sticking with the +1 firing speed xbow. Still haven't found anything with nether or disenchant res.

On 24.2.2006 15:04 donalde@pp.inet.fi wrote:
Actually... You should use Barrd, it does way more damage. Hmh.. Also your speed is somewhat overkill. How about Theoden + Bard as a weapons? That would give you two more speed, thus allowing latr ring change. (ring of power) With that equipment, you'd do damage in ranged attacks, thus reducing risk of disen. CCW's are useless.

I can't find the last spellbook. I've found hundreds of copies of the other four... I'm sitting in DL97 for a while, it's getting kinda old already. 84 out of 93 known uniques are dead.

Got Belthronding, and _finally_ the last spellbook. Now I suppose I should start collecting arrows, scrolls of banishment/mass banishment, get shards res, then go fight Sauron? any tips on fighting him and Morgoth?

I won!
I got tired of looking for shards res, so I went down to fight Sauron just for the heck of it. The standard anti-summoning corridor worked wonders on him. I just hacked him apart with Trident of Wrath while healing myself. I then meleed Morgoth with Eonwe, plus the occasional use of Portal + Word-of-destruction and two mass banishment casts. A long, tough fight it certainly was; I was down to 100hp at one point. 9 uniques survived Morgoth.
