Feb DitL Learning Competition Character. Blessed are the yeeks!

The swamp south of Bree is full of the sunken corpses of Lizard Kings, it took a long while to get a floater.

Intrinsic rAcid and rPoison are pretty handy to go with the +10 speed.

Yeah, and the +40 AC bonus was great too.

But, I couldn't resist popping into the Greater Hell Beast body. Now I'm regretting only taking 49 Princess quests!

I killed an extra Lizard king before I switched, just in case I get frustrated. I learned that lesson the hard way, by possessing Smeagol, ouch!

Killed Eol with a DE priest, and he dropped a corpse, woohoo!

NOW you're looking good. Eol should serve you well for a long time. How on earth did you kill him?

I need to update the DitL!

I fought Eol in a Dark elf preist body at level 28. Speed 20 from the body, dagger, armour, and running.

With possession skill at 32, I could cast 'Confuse' as a Racial power repeatedly for free. Once Eol was hit, all he did was wander around. It's as cheesy as a melee Melkor curse.

I think Eol might serve me forever, unless Maeglin or one of the Joke monsters drop a corpse. Kind of sad, because I was having fun switching bodies.

Playing a possessor again is starting to bring back memories, and I'm starting to remember some of the tricks. There are some really good bodies out there still. Yeah, Maeglin's great, but Gold Thunderlords are also nice, the Necromancer is tremendous, and Knights Templar are not to be discounted.

Fizzle is not wearing any boots because he had a wee bit of an accident when he was Santa Claus, and summoned when he shouldn't have. He managed to grab a corpse and recall back to town, but it was a hound so inventory was a bit tight.

Fizzle must now wear a Doom amulet as punishment, so it doesn't happen again.

I didn't know Marda dropped a corpse. In fact, I was pretty sure she didn't (ditto for Trone), guess I was wrong.

Trone doesn't, but Marda does (and Lisa, Flare, and Sarko can drop one too.)

If you look at the Feb DitL comments, I've got a comment about running tomespoil.pl, to dump the monsters with corpses. Mega-spoily, of course.

Got Flare as a summon from a Gold Thunderlord of mine, and made him a companion.

Sarko died in Mount Doom (okay, I admit, I helped a bit with that) but didn't drop a corpse.

All the ring-droppers have been killed, so now it's off to Angband. I even killed Sauron in Mount Doom, and he didn't drop the one ring either.

On 13.2.2006 16:06 Elliott946@aol.com wrote:
Sauron can be a stingy bastard sometimes. My personal "worst" is having to kill Sauron 7 times to get the Ring off him, and that was after killing all the other possible bearers first (maybe not Ar-Pharazon. Can't remember).

I destroyed the One Ring and Sauron, then went Nazgul hunting in Dol Guldur and Mount Doom.

I found Improv in a vault in Mount Doom, then DarkGod, then Marylene. Sadly, only Marylene dropped a corpse. I was really looking forward to some dual wielding, since the combat abilities of my single-weapon corpses never came close to that of a Marilith.

Elessar, Orome, and Vorpal Blade all got fried with a Morgothian Curse. I flipped a Magi amulet, then scummed for an artifact scroll, to make some sort of replacement for Elessar. I stole and read an acquirement scroll while waiting for an artifact scroll, and Sting dropped. I decided it was too scummy a way to get Sting, and stuck it in the Mathom house.

I'll stick with my oringal plan of using Doomcaller to fight Morgoth.

On 16.2.2006 07:53 veryfoobar-tome@yahoo.com wrote:
The new plan is to go kill Tiki as Marylene, then grab a Marilith body and battle Melkor wielding Grond, Eternity, and Lasher.

I'm having a bit of a problem finding the Witch-king. I'm going to get a stack of pet scrolls, head to Angband, summon myself some rotting Qs, and wield Grond.

On 16.2.2006 15:24 Elliott946@aol.com wrote:
Wow. A possessor in Marylene. That's a powerful body. Fewer SP than Eol, I see, which is surprising. I'm also surprised you're not doing more damage, though I guess its because you're not using that ring of extra attacks.

Why all the tricky subterfuge? At this point, I would think that you could pick Melkor up and break him over your knee in Marylene. I guess the lure of that 3 weapon set is too much to pass up.

On 16.2.2006 23:56 veryfoobar-tome@yahoo.com wrote:
That's not a bad idea, but I'm worried that fighting Melkor as Marylene would pretty much be a replay of Red from the November DitL comp. I could barely scratch Melkor as Red.

I suppose it depends on how easy it is for Melkor to hit me and drain my Sanity. I've got a ton of HP, so it would be a question of my weak attacks versus his sanity drain.

Maybe two stacks of Cure Sanity potions would do it.

I can't find a cloak of Air. I'm going to dive anyway. I went for a spin in the Submerged ruins, and it looks barely possible for me to live without air if I rest frequently. I don't think my symbiot is going to survive, though.

Looks like I'll take Elliot's advice, and fight Melkor as Marylene.

The Eternity sword only increases my Yeek HP, not my posessed body's HP. I was hoping to get more HP out of a Marilith from Eternity.

Besides, Grond absolutely pulverized Tiki, turning her into a slime pancake in just four rounds.

I won't have the +5 attacks ring against Melkor, and Grond will get only 2*dice instead of 5* dice, but I think Marylene's up to the challenge.

Melkor normally does SN damage with 2 of his 4 melee attacks, plus can cast mindblasting. With a 300+ AC, he won't hit you all the time, but he should land a SN hit not quite once/round. With your speed, 5-8 potions of cure insanity should be plenty.

This shouldn't be a replay of Red. You're going to pound him into the ground. Seriously. Compare Fizzle with how my Dwarf did in the last competition. I killed Melkor and stuck around long enough to kill 2M exp worth of demons afterwards. You don't have the damage output that he had, but more than making up for it is that you've got WAY more hp, a MUCH higher AC, and are faster.

Melkor is dead, but it wasn't a total cakewalk. I foolishly forgot to put Morgoth's crown in Lothlorien, because I was planning on a quick trip back from the Nether realm before my final descent. So, I fought Melkor with only 18/140 Wisdom and 605 max sanity.

Melkor's abomination attack was absolutely brutal, since I lost all the Marylene corpse attributes, dropping from +83 speed to +28, and had even worse max sanity.

Luckily FF gave me Mimicry once, so I could flip out through a void gate I was standing on, and use Mimicry to revert to my normal form.

The powers from Marylene on the character sheet are bogus. I didn't really have summon unique/summon angel/any breath power/mind blasting etc.
