Played dwarf, used innate strength to carry a huge load of rods and wands. This makes mage a lot more fun, since you don't have to spend any time regenerating mana.
Basically, play it like a weak ranger, kill almost all monsters, except for powerful summoners and some breathers.

This guy has had phenomenal luck with armor. Red DSM early, then Elvenkind Shield, then Robe of Permanence, then Isildur, all of them appearing right when I really wanted it.
