This started out as an experiment to see what the Flame of Udun spell was like, and it ended up as my first ultimate winner.

Flame of Udun proved utterly useless until the final fight with Melkor, where me being a Balrog stopped him from turning me to in an Abomination. This meant I could afford to fight him up close (1300+ HPs, an AC of 376, and heaps of Cure Insanity potions helped too...).

A nice little irony: Melkor, rebel against Eru, gets brought down by one of his own former followers, disguised as a Balrog.

Forgot to mention: carried round Roac's corpse for most of the game because eating it gives a useful (and indestructable) source of easily-to-kill monsters - very helpful if I ever got forced into Undead Form (which, in turned out, I wasn't).
