My usual "timetable" has the three of them dead by 2 hours of playtime. Just my silly little time-attack ritual that has probably gotten me dead more than I'd like to admit.

Since I'm still green at all this riding stuff, I'm still not sure how to optimize training Riding while finding a pet that keeps dumping me on my ass. Fortunately, I acquired Trumps of Doom from a hapless Ancient dragon of some flavor, and summoned me an 11-headed hydra and an Ethereal Dragon. For now, the hydra is spending its time locked away in a little metal ball at home, since the Ethereal Dragon is just a mite more powerful :)

My Riding is still at Beginner, although I've started to stay on my large semicorporeal mount a little more often. Any tips on how I should be developing my skill so as to reap the benefits of riding a fast mount? Or should I switch to a different mount given my current level/statistics?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I went through a series of dragons, including a Great Hell Wyrm, but finally settled on a Steel Dragon, which I got by upgrading a Stone Dragon. Well, riding Metal Gear made Cloning Pits significantly easier than I expected, because of his (hers? its?) 200 AC and heavy, heavy hits, complemented nicely of course by my own decent melee power.

The Greater Kraken I nabbed will likely be released back to the wilds (If you love it, let it go), because Hengband prevents krakens from being ridden on land, unlike ToME (as I recall) where you could possess the body of a water monster and walk anywhere with it.

Here's hoping for a faster, and still more powerful mount :)

This probably occurs more rarely than finding Vorpal Blade, but not, perhaps, as rare as the extremely elusive Muramasa, which my lvl 50 Half-Titan Samurai has been searching eons for...

Sorry I didn't post sooner regarding the artifact creation I attempted on a Heavy Lance, but it kinda sucked. Oh well, that's the way of things--maybe I'll get the one from the wanted monsters, and hopefully things will turn out better there. Or I might fall to my impulse to use it on my +4 elven cloak sitting at home...

The botched artifact is the Heavy Lance "Spirit Render", and it had the bare minimums to make it usable, but certainly not great. The only slay was slay evil, which is good, and +3 chr, stealth, and resist nether made up the rest of the significant attributes. Pretty sad, as I had Silver Chariot to use already, and that was doing a better job.

I've been clobbering things with Nain for the moment, and it has been working surprisingly well, as evidenced by my recent victory over Mephistopheles, and a Cyberdemon he summoned to boot. I only had to use 3 pots of healing, and the rod of healing after a teleport to finish that job. Regretfully, no usable treasure from that bastard, but did get the 4th samurai book to add to the exquisite displays in the Museum.

Speaking of which, did you know you get penalized for the Sacrifice virtue if you donate to the Museum??? I mean COME ON! You NEVER get to have the stuff in hand ever again. It should ADD to Sacrifice, because you're putting the stuff on display for a bunch of Singing, Happy Drunks, Hobos, Filthy Street Urchins and Raving Lunatics to drool at (okay, okay, so they do that without good loot to look at). But still, it's kinda weird. Oh well.

Funny how my first and only Lord of Change I beat up and captured happened to be +29 speed. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. You were all right about it being a damn fine steed. Anyways, here's hoping that my final quest monster (I won't be ready for a while, in case it's the Unicorn or the Destroyer) actually gives me good loot FOR ONCE! All the others gave me absolute crap.

Nice to finally yield max speed with my mount, although frankly, the difference between +35 speed and +39 speed is pretty insignificant ;)

One day I hope to net me a better mount, although I don't really have any complaints about the Lord of Change, except that it might be lacking a bit in the hitpoint department.

Anyways, I've flourished much more than I expected with my relatively paltry damage and have managed to kill a good number of medium-high powered uniques such as Richard Wong, Cyaegha, The Norsa, Azriel, and suchlike. I'll definitely need to upgrade my weapon if I hope to take on the likes of Shuma-Gorath and Nodens with any degree of safety, much less success. That, or a ring of extra attacks +3...please? :)

Next order of business is to get myself a copy of Five Aces, but as you can see from the ever-expanding Museum, I've found just about every other book except for the one which I truly desire
