The level 30 evolution is very underwelming, you go from having a multitude of spells to only have one (bad) summon. It seems prudent to scum for as many capture balls as you can and stock up on many high level things before that happens. Speaking of capture balls, are there any methods of getting them besides random loot?

You are nearly the first person to play Quylthulgs, so I'd appreciate all the feedback you can offer. My thoughts are:

[1] Early Q summoning spells need caps. For example, Summon Dragon should be restricted to baby and young dragons (no drakes). If you evolve into a Draconic Q, you'll see they have abilities to summon mature and then ancient dragons.

[2] Pets need better pathfinding. Really, they are downright stupid sometimes, unable to take two steps to the right to negotiate a slight bend in the corridor.

[3] I'd like to be able to command pets individually to override the global behavior. That way, I could appoint an "Honor Guard" to keep near me whilst I dispatch the rest at a chosen (out of line of sight) foe.

Are the Rotting powers not useful? Perhaps if the beginning powers were capped, you would notice the difference? I pretty much copied the Q powers verbatim from Posband, though they may work differently since the pet code, pet AI and monster allocator are all different in PosChengband.

On reflection, I think Quylthulgs would be a very good candidate for speedruns as really the only thing that matters is having enough CHR to be able to cast things (that's very easy) and enough HP to withstand a nasty breath attack if you get unlucky, you want to be as deep as you can be for the best summons and you level up very quickly (a combination of low XP% and getting lots of XP from massive summoner vs summoner fights), the final two fights are fairly low intensity on consumables too.
