Testing.

Blah regening is boring. Uh cloning pits reward was bit crappy. Atleast give it 2 random resistances or something :). Activating the abilities simultaneously doesnt seem practical. Too much damage and cuts. AC goes pretty high up if you run with a shield. 220ish ~dl40 mobs dont hit much. Lack of movement ability or multifoe attack might become a problem. Quite hard to move in summon horde. Dont particularly look forward meeting drujs.

By the way default Autodestroyer destroys your nice rings of spellpower as trash. I suppose because of the -3 modifier. Some mages are gonna be pissed when that happens to them.

Class is pretty powerful tho damage wise. Of course you gotta take a few hits to start doing good damage. Hard to say what its gonna be when i have good weapons and possibly dualwield. The bonuses to hit might make DW op.

Yeah, finding a Ring of Speed +8 before The Cloning Pits is a bit unusual, though. I can see how you would be disappointed :) For 0.0.8, The Cloning Pits reward changed yet again. You have a chance at Shiva's boots, but otherwise, you get something much weaker. I'm tired of the boots being a gimme, as 90% of the winners on the ladder still have 'em on at the end. Too powerful! You might want to do The Old Castle before 0.0.8. Your reward in 0.0.7 is guaranteed pretty good. Coming up you will have a chance at something even better, but most of the time, you won't fare so well.

You are ahead of my dwarf ... I guess I need to play catch up :D I found the early game fairly easy going, but am stuck at +2 base speed, so I just get owned at DL35 where fast monsters abound. I would just love that Cloning Pits reward, though not as much as the boots, of course.

Just updating. Havent played this since 0.0.7 when i stopped to wait for class changes which later came but still havent bothered to continue.

I recall feeling rather discouraged that this class can deal with late game casters or summoners. Changes help but the hardcore healing reduction feels like a game changer for late game. There's just no way to deal with mobs that spam manastorm and breaths when you cant heal.

I'm a pessimist :).

Well had to try a bit after the regen change which at least seems to be helpful. I'm still curious is speed changes factored in?

Brand did not co-operate (yet again) and did a vault level but found nothing useful. Well i did find Jack's cloak on the ground(not even in the vault) but cant use it due to resistances.

I wonder how AOE classes find the ticked off effect. My puny aoe doesnt quite have range to piss of enough mobs.

I don't recall making any speed changes ... Did I forget something?

I'm glad to hear the regen change is helping. Not regenerating while cut doesn't make sense for this class, and honestly, I wasn't even aware of that game mechanic :)

The thought on the increased regen speed was that you probably wouldn't want to heal within line of sight of your opponent, so one strategy might be to just beat down until you are in trouble, and then teleport. The quick regen should help with battles of attrition until you get the Blood Pool, at which point the 150 hp healing should help.

So DL58. I find new mob Death beast - Z .. more passwall doggies or maybe it just disintegrated everything on its way. Well escorted or not it had 40 Dis.int vortices (l63) with it on a quest level.

Fun times.

They blasted my 50 seeker arrows in no time flat and hardly any of them dead. half the map open area and Fiona hunting me somewhere. Cant even get close 'cus there is so many and potions dont heal me.

luckily i had Destruction staff + 12 recharging which i usually dont have. Took almost every scroll and use to get the vortices down and fortunately Fiona was trapped in bottom corner on the other side.

After a break and a town trip Daoloth pains me. Big open area where he blinks around and summons every turn. I cant even get close and when i do he just blinks again and nukes nexus when he isnt summoning. Summons Vlad too and i have to flee. After vlad is dispatched and several summons and blinks around i get him to 1 star and teleport away. Long trip back and rince and repeat. I try shoot it on 3rd trip but arrows are low dam and he just nukes back and blink more so i abandon that and after some work finally finish him.

Dragon cave trip after for easier kills / alive mobs. Get some crap artifacts to fill the house and l45. Blood pool ability 42% fail.. great.

Revenge is still bad. Mobs miss with high ac a lot and its costly to activate so it doesnt do much of any damage to them. Maybe on destroyer. About as useful as fiery etc auras (not at all). Blood feast is even less useful. Used it 2 times on this char 1 to test and 1 more time to recornfirm how useless it is. Mobs have so much hp that you die before them and if you dont then you are trapped in feast mode for shitloads of turns (25+d25 at normal speed?) and cant hit anything else (because you die). Sure for every 1 damage you do to yourself the mob takes lil over 2. However player has like 1/5-1/30th of the hps of high level SUMMONER mobs hps so its actually pretty bad deal. And thats if you are at full hp and since activating some abilites already cuts you down to 70% and bleeding.. no thx.

Berserking stays on pretty long and you cant refresh slay alive/shield while its up (or anything else). CCW ftw.

Eternal pain of resistances continues. DW might be helpful to get mobs down faster and thus lose less hp. However getting even livable resistances while DW decent weapons is hard. For BK resistances are even more important because you cant pot heal after getting hit by magic/breaths. You either teleport/destruct or die.

Whenever 0.0.18 is ready, you will have the option to cancel the Blood Feast by recasting it ... I think you raise a valid point wrt that spell and running for your life :)

The Blood Aura is way more powerful than normal auras. But if monsters can't hit you, then of course, it is useless. Also, the aura runs on your cut status, so you'll need to pump that up, but if a living monster hits you 4x, they can take as much as 200 damage. With a normal aura, they take mid 20s on average for 4 hits, and even then, they probably resist, so divide by 9.

Blood Pool definitely needs thought/work. Being able to create healing potions (and currently, as many as you like) has a great potential to be broken. The high fails and high casts are to prevent you from attempting to cast it in the dungeon, or at least to make you think twice. We definitely need to do something with this spell.

Also, 0.0.18: You are now treated like a berserker. You can spell thru anti-magic and thru a berserk rage. Terror Mask will be favorable (have you found it yet? ... you might want to wait :)

No i havent found it. For general fyi (reported to chris already) my save somehow reverted back to 3 hours back so i lost 1M xp glaive and some other stuff :(. There were no error messages but its possibles that few bad sectors on my HD caused this but i recommend other people wanting to test to keep separate saves just in case.

You guys should really wizardmode to 40 and run around with decent but not op kit around higher levels to find out what you can actually use while playing. I mean you activate say slay alive/shield berserk and revenge. Thats 300 hp down and you are bleeding soon 200 / turn. How many mobs you think you can kill like that when taking say 4 hits / turn for example?

Its just not practical. Its also not very practical to run below 400ish hp at DL60 and probably have to keep higher when you go deeper to survive Psycho spears/manastorms from afar or near. You wont have double resistances for all them wyrms and firebreathers and those breaths kinda hurt with single resistance.

Normal char u get a breath and ok drink a pot and you get same or more back. BK you get half back and if the mob does it again its fun times. Big sound and Shard attacks are still rare at dl60 so i have managed without those resistances. Other chars can manage them with potions and deeper since they can stay full hp most of the time and recover a lot drinking but BK no. You are practically always running at 60% tops when engaging because damage is not that high so it doesnt take much magic to get you fucked. If you are above 60% you just dont do enough damage and mobs will damage you to get you there.

Playrec is full of "critical situation because of xxx". Compared to my heng 1.7.0 Samurai who has first critical situation at DL 50 in the mountain by hastur in playrec. BK already has like 30-40 by then. And thats the "easy part" of the game. And being at the edge of death is kind of more dangerous for BK due to not being able to pop potions to save yourself.

Samurai is def stronger than BK but Samurai is a bit OP class. On top of good damage they have a skill for every situation. BK basically has some single target dps boosts and haste(dps boost but it also helps defensively since you get it relatively early thus gives you a bit of time to flee).

On 24.11.2010 19:33 chris wrote:
So ... I need to play test :D

I'm close to having a running version again, and will make the BK my highest priority at that point. I've already made some tweaks (Check out latest release notes). This means that when I finally get around to play testing, I will have an easier time, but being a maintainer needs to have some perks :)

@Dave: I haven't made that change yet ... too busy :(

Ok Spent like 2 hours on 1 level 62. It all started from 1 skull druj who summoned another and then a demilich.

About 100-200 various liches vampires uniques reavers and many W mobs later stemming from that single druj...

Very hard to handle high hp summoners without getting swamped.

Net gear was rather crappy. Actually nothing really useful. Some items that i "might" use later to fill resistance slots.

I think i had between 300-350hp / 313 AC/31 speed but dead in 1 round without double move :(. Many turns he hits me i quaff he hits me i quaff and occasionally i get 1 round of melee. Seems he hit all his 4 melee strikes and with the earthquake crit (severely crush).. alas.

Started out with ideal warrior who showed up and summoned atlas+wyrms and undeads who summoned even more keepers of secret and so on. I fled a lil later after trying to play around with phase door. Met up with Atlas and ate his melee while chugging ~10-15 potions almost every turn 1.

On 26.11.2010 15:25 chris wrote:
Ouch ... Atlas only had a 2% chance of hitting you all 4 times, and he managed that. But what did you in was the 200hp Earthquake critical! Those really suck (I just lost a character to that on DL28). Were you completely surrounded by monsters and/or walls at the time? As far as I can see, you only get the 200hp critical if there is no clear floor adjacent to you after the earthquake messes up the walls. So fighting near permanent walls or inside vaults is also a bad idea. Of course, if you are just unlucky, the earthquake itself may block up all the remaining clear spaces next to you.

On 26.11.2010 23:43 Antiguard@gawab.com wrote:
he had mostly blocked the area with earthquake probably no clear adjacent anymore. There was some hill giants around there but they had probably been entombed by then.

But 200 + 3x 13d13 would be enough to do it anyways even with armor damage reduction? Chance is probably higher since crits always hit? Dont know if hits are counted dynamically and armour goes up between hits? Maybe ac was lower when his melee turn started and now it shows higher armour which i would have with this hp.

But this was the probalem from the start. The game is long and even unlikely will happen eventually. Besides there is a lot more badass mobs still left.
