Chris can you make an option to shut up talking mounts?

Rich picked me up but I can't rest at normal speed because of 5000 -more-s I have to process because he talks. Create the item 'Ducktape'.

Done! The town healing service now also heals your mount as well (Which was a good idea).

I'll try to get a patch release up today. Are there any outstanding issues ideas that I should address first?

Just realised something. If your mount dies in the arena, how do you get out if you win? You can't recall.

I didn't test it, but glitter should work with the next release (3.1.2). Until then, you can rest until you starve to death!

Also, I've relented a bit on a few things:

          * Rings now gain +L/10 to speed. Since speed rings are so rare this should help (somewhat) to avoid insta-death when your bearer discards you. It might be CL40 before you find a RoS, after all (or later!)

          * Rings now gain a random chosen power at certain levels (10, 15, 25, 35, 45). This will help ensure that the player does not get completely screwed with finding suitable random activations. Upgrading from 3.1.1 won't grant missed powers, unfortunately.

It'd be thematic if rings didn't have to eat. As in, the ring that sits around for a thousand years until some poor soul happens on it. No idea about balance though.

Good idea about the extra power at certain level breaks. Can you make sure though that it's not just something totally random? As in, pull it from a pool of either attack or useful utilities? My next few games all got rewards from Warg quest and drops with like activations 15-20 levels above my clevel.

A quick ring playtesting update is now available here.

              * Charm now works against confusion resisting monster. This was a big snafu with the last release since confusion resistance is nearly universal among monsters!

              * Rings gain speed and a few spells with experience. The spells gained are chosen randomly from a small set of useful choices so you should always gain something worthwhile. Spell bonuses currently occur at levels 10, 15, 25, 35 and 45. Upgrading won't grant bonuses you missed.

              * All sorts of town Arena bugs should be fixed. Rings can't charm monsters in the Arena, nor can they glitter. Should their mount die, they can't move, of course, but once they defeat the current opponent they are whisked out of the arena (losing the reward, of course). They can then reaquire a bearer in the town normally.

              * Glitter now works inside quests in case your ring bearer dies.

              * The Temple healing service now heals the player's mount as well.

              * Mounts no longer speak.

              * Rings cannot reforge artifacts in the town.

              * A couple new high level ring powers have been added. Support for a couple of missing artifact amulet activations has been added.

              * Olympians drop their artifacts more often (Let the uber dumps begin!)

              * Arena monsters no longer follow the player out of the arena should the player lose.

Source code can be found here and a full diff of changes can be found here.

You always amaze me how fast you update stuff, or I'm overestimating how much work is it, or you are just that good.

But also have a question, how does charm work? When do you know you can effectively charm a monster of a certain level with a certain amount of Charisma?

Patching up bugs from a previous sloppy release really should not impress anybody

This release now lists the power of charm in the spell list. Success happens when 1dP >= L where P is the listed power and L is the monster's level. P is computed from your current level and your charisma. Note that if monsters make a saving throw they have a chance of picking up immunity to charm so you can't just spam it forever until it works.

My death knight doesn't seem to be able to summon after upgrading, it is allowed to in the ally menu and it does cast (message says "[...] summons monsters!") but nothing arrives.

I'm trying to reproduce this one, but my Death Knight goes bonkers summoning every time. It could be some sort of alignment issue, but I don't see virtues in your character dump. What options are you using? Do you still have a savefile?

BTW, if there is to be a competition on this (Debo?) I'll probably still do one last release making jewelry a tad more common (It is currently 3.5% of drops). Also, the BM is still using the old (broken) object allocation code, so jewelry is very rare in the BM.

                        Hurry up and report bugs

Hm, started a new game to test and yeah it seems to be fine now so not sure what the deal was. No savefile sorry, I died to the first monster I saw after posting!

It's definitely a bug and should be fixed for next release. In the meantime, be sure to dismiss all of your pets before leaving a level.

Why dismiss pets? What does this have to do with alignment?
