Good Lord! Where was I when I needed that

Suggestion: Make Dog collars amulets, and very low spawn chance for non-hound characters.
I think it'd be fun to have a random character occasionally find one.

Nice catch ... I uploaded a fix (1.0.12) in the usual place. In addition, I made a few changes to Hounds giving them extra speed per evolution (starting with Fire/Cold/etc) as well as a smidgen more melee damage.

I was sarcastic as orcs resist dark and are hurt by light.

Or unlucky ... For the first evolution, you either get Light or Dark Hound so there isn't too much choice. I'd prefer light myself since the darkness breath tends to hide stuff and my hounds rarely have any source of illumination at that point in the game.

Different. You also get different HP rolls and different max stats.

PosChengband 1.0.11 has been uploaded here with only a few minor changes:

    * Hounds can now where helmets. If you are upgrading an existing hound, you may find your boots in the helmet slot. Just take them off and re-equip them.
    * Adjusted Hound speed bonuses down a bit.
    * Added new Dog Collar artifacts: Wolf, Fang and Grip. Only Hounds may wear dog collars.

    I usually play as follows:
[1] Camelot to DL3 or so.
[2] Take and complete Thieve's Quest in town of Outpost.
[3] Take Wargs Quest. Descend to DL5 in Camelot to complete this quest.
[4] Walk to Morivant. (With the wilderness, be sure to bring plenty of food and light. The wilderness is huge and therefore has its own special travel mode. Press '<' to enter the wilderness mode where you can walk around much more quickly. Press '>' to return to normal mode once you reach your destination. You can use normal look ('l') and map ('m') commands just like any dungeon level. Stay on the path and be wary of ambush. Deep water areas a *very* deadly, even for high level players).
    [5] Walk to Angband.
[6] Descend to DL6 in Angband and do the first quest.
    [7] Return to surface.
    [8] Walk to Orc Caves.
[9] Hang out in the Orc Caves until you are strong enough to defeat the guardian. Usually, this is CL25 for me, though sometimes sooner. Wait for necessary rods to show up (Trap Location, Illumination, Door & Stair Location, Monster Location).
[10] Walk to Labyrinth. Descend as rapidly as possible and complete. Sometimes you need speed for this as the Minotaur can be quite deadly. Also, this dungeon is rather annoying, but the rewards are nice.
[11] Descend for DL12 quest in Angband.
[12] Walk to remaining 2 towns (Telmora and Angwil). Complete Sewer quest, Orc camp quest and perhaps even Doom Quest I.
[13] Find a dungeon for stat gain. If I have permanent levitation, I'll pick The Lonely Mountain. If I have to swap in a ring of levitation temporarily, I'll pick The Mountain. Otherwise, The Castle or The Icky Caves will have to do.
[14] Spend a long time waiting for stat potions. If you spot Gachapin, then you know he is not your DL24 quest so you can do that (Gachapin has 800hp, is +10 speed, breathes poison for 270 and Chaos for 130. He also summons hydras and steals gold, so you better have speed, detection and adequate hp for that guy).

But there are many ways to play. Some people like to dive into The Dragon's Lair (DL60) almost immediately but that's rarely for me. If you are really bold, there is also Mt. Olympus (DL90) but that is suicide early on. I prefer to play conservatively until I have maxed stats and obtained some decent gear, waiting until I am strong enough for The Cloning Pits. After that point, I might risk the Dragon's Lair, but it is a gamble even then ...

    Good Luck!

    Free for all!

You can choose whatever dungeon you want to enter. Just be warned that some dungeons start really deep, so check the level of the dungeon. A dungeon level 40 (Glass Castle) is the same a being on dungeon level 40, with the monsters native to that depth. You can easily kill yourself if you make that mistake.

Yay Bravo! This will be pretty handy for determining whether to increase ones str or dex. This is my first time playing a variant, is there any particular order for the dungeons Chris or is it meant to be sorta be a free for all?
