    Fix the bug, sure. Cancel the effects of the WoR upon surfacing??? I'm not so sure that's a good idea, but, you're the maintainer. What I mean is, had I remembered that recall was still in effect upon surfacing, I could have simply headed back down and wasted a few turns, or read a 2nd recall (not that I had one). I don't really think that a change to the game mechanics is necessary.

    Unrelated... having played a few modestly successful Z+ characters so far, I was just wondering. Is it 'normal' to just hop from one quest to another. It seems that all I do when I play is try to complete quests. Is there a greater goal I should be aspiring to along the way... and maybe complete just a few quest on the side just to break up the monotony. In my humble, inexperienced opinion, sometimes, especially early in the game, quest rewards seem extravagant. Also, XP for disarming traps and casting spells seems a bit much. My latest character, after quickly killing his quest's target, an Owlbear, gained CL's 7 and 8 by simply disarming the trap filled lair.

      Up to you, of course. I can let you know that the toughest areas of the wilderness come in at about DL 64. But watch out for high-level dungeon entrances; you can meet level 90+ uniques there.

        Nah, I'm pretty sure no one would ever do this intentionally. I guess that if you read a WoR in town, you could go down to DL 1 to "cancel" the effect without reading another scroll.. but you can still do that after the change. And I can't imagine people would want to read WoR on DL 1 and then ascend so as to recall deeper... sounds like the kind of thing you might do if you had a full inventory, but then wanting to recall deeper is odd.

        I think the goals one should have are the same goals one would have in a game without quests: get better stuff, gain levels, and keep challenging yourself. It's a question of how much doing quests helps with that goal. Early on quests are great, they're a fantastic way to jump up to the high-teen levels. However, quests tend to be less than ideal ways to get good stuff; for that nothing beats vaults you can approach clearing out. Quests also give you stat bonuses but they aren't really a good way to go about trying to max out your stats; they become too slow once you get to the point where you can actually find stat gain potions regularly in the dungeon. I do like the artifact quests though, if the artifact is one that would be of use, which they usually are.

          Thanks.
          Point is the wilderness can always sneak up and kill you.....
          Just relized this last night after taking on a Dragon who came out of nowhere. Luckily I somehow survived to tell the tale.

            In case you didn't know, by the way, you can use ^F to get a feeling for how dangerous the wilderness is where you are. That can help keep you from wandering into dangerous areas. Also, you can tell a bit from the terrain: jungle, desert, and swamp (and the middle of large water areas) tend to be the most dangerous.

              Using that now. Problem is I'm attempting to cross such terrain in my so far unsuccessfull searches for two particular towns. I'm searching for them because I want the 'quest' artifacts that are supposed to be nearby. I have proven to be lucky and resourcefull so far, but who knows when my luck will run out.

              I'm at that point now where I'm much further along then I have much experience at...

                Up until recently I was almost exclusively a vanilla player but I noticed the competition on this site and got started playing O and really enjoyed it so I decided to give this one a try too.

                So far I really like it, I've been playing chaos-warriors which always makes things interesting. There are a couple things that may be bugs or may just have to do with my setup. I play using the DG tiles and in bigtile mode with 16x32 tiles. I also copied the 16x25b font from my vanilla directory as I like that font. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes some of the menus have a wierd alignment and after pressing space they go back to normal. Some of the stores also seem to have a wierd alignment that does not fix in this manner.

                A couple features I think would be neat is the automatically continue disarming thing from Vanilla where you only have to push the key once and it keeps trying until successful or interrupted. Another thing is that since these monsters are leaving corpses it might be fun if we were able to take trophies from them. Possible allowing us to display them in/on our home with a plaque with some details of the kill and maybe a user entered comment or bit of story.

                  I also managed to crash the game a couple times, seems like it happens when I get a new mutation, possibly one that affects a stat that has already been mutated.

                  Also I got granted a pet radiation eye which kinda stunk cause he just stood there and disappeared when I left the level.

                    The 32x32 DG graphics are a work in progress, at least as far as Z+ is concerned. A collaborative effort between MangoJuice and myself. Good call on the font. A larger font really does make a difference. In addition to the things you've mentioned, the further you progress in the game, the more graphic omissions you will notice. Progress is constantly being made, so if you would like the latest .prf and .bmp, contact me through the forum.

                        Ok found the place, now quick question, When doing an artifact quest do I simply go down till I get to the lvl that the quest danger lvl is and search there? Or do I methodicly have to clear every level while going down till I find it?

                        Jungle-Boy: I too love playing chaos warriors, but regrettfully they don't last so long for me as of yet.

                          A 'recent' version is included with the latest Z+ release (currently 3.1), and updates will be included in future releases. However, if you'd like the very latest files (most likely with many minor changes and additions) you need to contact me through the forum and I'll e-mail it to you.

                            I don't have a problem with the occasional omission but it's nice to hear it's being worked on. and thanks for doing so.

                            The issue I was talking about may be related to the tile size which is why I mentioned it. Currently when I open my character screen the 'G' in Gold and the opening '(' in miscellaneous abilities are about 2-3 tabs to the left of where they should be and then when I hit space they go back to where they should be. This also happens with a few of the beginning letters on the next screen and also in the Warriors Hall the 'Q' 'E' 'R' and 'S' are misaligned until I hit space.

                            One more thing, what does a little red 'v' mean in my resist screen? Does that mean I'm vulnerable? Currently playing a Klackon Chaos-Warrior.

                              Yes, the 'v' means you are vulnerable; you probably have a mutation that is making you vulnerable to something.

                              I've noticed that bug in DVG graphics mode too; it's a little odd-looking but since it only happens in shops it's not the highest priority. At some point I may look into trying to port over double-tile mode and other things ... but it's back burner right now.

                                Great find, that font fits greatly with D Gervais tiles. The 16x25 font displays nicely too. I've attached a zip file with those two font files. You need to extract the zip in your ZPlusAngband_031beta_win\lib\xtra\font folder and select it by modifying your z+angband.INI file as follow:

                                Code:
                                [Angband]
                                Graphics=3
                                Bigtile=1
                                Sound=0
                                [Term-0]
                                Visible=1
                                Font=16X25.FON
                                TileWid=16
                                TileHgt=32
                                NumCols=80
                                NumRows=29
                                PositionX=0
                                PositionY=0
                                Maximized=0
                                Here are some screenshots of the game with the 16x25b font file and the above settings: http://blog.elderlore.com/gallery/20...ZAngband-0.3.1

                                I have the same graphic glitches than Jungle_Boy on my character screen; also, tiles are displayed halved on equipment, inventory and shops screens. I used to encounter the same behavior when I hacked Tometik a long time ago, maybe my notes can be of some help.
