I agree. Fun stuff! Can you recall, though? If so these gauntlets are only a challenge for forced decent, right? Please like my indie game company on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/RatherFunGamesComment

There should be a head-up message upon arrival on no-teleport level, imo. A huorn killed me in one of these levels. I could only phase and it kept commanding me back to it and beating my ass til I died. I didn't have TO so I was basically screwed.
Not that a heads up message would've helped, once the huorn was awake
Also a little question about these levels: are there reduced amount of loot or is all the loot on the right side? I've stumbled into one of these few times now, and detect treasure never seems to show anything. Please like my indie game company on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/RatherFunGamesComment

Come on lads, Angband is all about game knowledge and new surprises. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that. I've never actually seen one of these levels before but I think it would be quite exciting to face something new and strange. If my character dies, then I'll move on and try to learn a lesson.Comment

Weird pathfinding bug.
Zip files for repro attached. Just watch Khamul moving. I waited too long and got hungry.
Version 4.2.1
Edit: to see the bug, just rest a few turns.Last edited by Pete Mack; March 13, 2021, 16:09.Comment

My favorite part about Angband is firing off mapping and detection and planning my path through the level that lets me avoid nasty monsters, assassinate loot pinatas and pick up some treasure on the way down. A level that forces me through a single path that involves a gauntlet of nasty monters I would normally avoid feels like an unfun combination of boring and deadly. I mean, it's not a big deal, because while I don't play with WoR I *do* play with connected stairs and without forced descent, so I can just refresh the level if I find myself on one of these. But this still feels like it's trying to introduce challenge by taking away all the fun parts.
Now, if the gauntlet was a kind of greater vault that had a metric ton of loot at the end, but not the stairs, then I might be a bit more keen on the idea. Similarly if you had types of vaults that blocked ESP.
Basically, I'd rather be tempted with treasure than backed into a corner.Comment

Why do people keep posting 4.2.1 things in this 4.2.2 thread?“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

When I was still able to play 4.2.?, I saved my _Banishment charges just for huorns.*
(And druj. Frak those guys.)
Made it a tough choice whether or not to use charges when I encountered a summoning unique and he started calling his buddies, cuz I knew there'd be a forest of huorns just around an upcoming corner...
