I meant to mention this as well. Definitely seems like a bug.

Maybe we should start a 4.2.3 thread? I have some suggestions, but I don't want to mix them in with urgent 4.2.2 bug reports and gameplay questions.

The "Equippable comparison" knowledge menu needs 6 more columns, for the various stats. I just went pawing through inventory for +CON items so I could replace =CON <+6> with =Damage.(I ended up using a wooden torch, +2 CON, +5 infra.)

Did you see that you can see the primary stat and sustain info by pressing 'v' (and then press 'v' if you want to get back to the other stuff)? Pressing 'q' and entering 'con' as the filter string would let you limit the display to the items with bonuses to constitution.

I've been running a compiled-from-source 4.2.1 on this system, but had forgotten it was a --with-no-install compile that I'd copied from my old system during a recent hardware upgrade, and I'd been assuming the libraries were on the system (and too tired at the time to actually look at the messages being spat out by ./configure).

I confirmed that on absolutely fresh installs of Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 Desktop, you just need to run "apt-get install libx11-dev" to get the appropriate libraries for X11, and "apt-get install libncursesw5-dev" for Curses.

The Equippable menu only prompts 'v' when showing the alternate attributes. The main screen does not include it.

I notice that if you have "Automcatically clear '-more-' prompts" set to "yes", then no messages are displayed at all at the top of the main "Angband" window. Is that by design?

Yes, it is fairly recent, and a result of a request from people playing on angband.live. The assumption is you would only use auto_more if you have a message window open.

Mobs of Huorn are just tedious once you can defeat them easily. And they come in massive numbers.

Perhaps. But now you have to drag your eyes away from the main screen every time you walk across an item that disappears to see whether it was something you've squelched, or whether you automatically picked it up. IMHO, those messages don't fall into the "-more-" category in the same way that battle messages do.

If nothing else, the description should be changed, because the elimination of messages no longer depends on the appearance of the '-more-' trigger.

Apparently it is a common window configuration on angband.live to have the message window immediately above the main window, which was having the visual effect of doubling the message line.

There was some discussion of it here and also on the 4.2.1 thread.

I missed those discussions. Some of us don't play on angband.live, and don't have our window config setup this way. (My monitor setup makes such a layout impossible.) This is a big change that makes play a lot more awkward.

Personally, I really liked the 4.2.1 method, and the more I think about this the less sense it makes to lump items into "auto_more". Items already have methods to deal with multiples (stacks) and could never fall into the "-more-" category.

I can see the logic in implementing an option to eliminate the main-window messaging entirely in addition to the original auto_more config settings so you can choose full messaging, auto-more messaging, or no messaging at all in the main window, but it seems to me that this is an all-or-nothing approach that leaves those of us happy with the old config out in the cold.

                            Bug:
During Single Combat, the opponent sometimes with "It is defeated", and lore (HP, kill count) isn't updated.
                            Edit: this is only intermittent.

                              Bug:
"The Ethereal dragon is defeated." But I... am stuck in limbo. Alas... For what it's worth, he wasn't very close in a big room. I am not sure what to do to get out of limbo.
Edit: recall worked. Nice to have a "bug fix workaround."

In my local Black Market, you can get a free Lantern of Shadows just by walking in the door! It currently has 17 of them going for zero gold. Save file is attached in case it is useful.
