Early scum to get going. A human mindcrafter will have no starting offense at all. Best bet is to find some mice and farm them to CL8, which I did. I got Int as my CL4 stat boost, but since Wis was my CL2, I played thru it.

Barely killed Farmer (standing on stairs for a quick getaway, of course!). Sold his goody and bought a shovel. 20 minutes shovelling netted 4k total gold, and I scummed for a good shooter. This is necessary for this class, I think. One needs to get to CL11 before one gets any offense other than the early psi mind blast which everybody seems to resist. And at that point, it is still a good idea to have a shooter as you only get 7 or 8 pulverises (not counting fails!) until you are out of sp. So 2 or 3 cave orcs, then flee! I'm up to 9 pulverises with 12% fail. Patience ...

Smeagol helped out with a sabre of extra attacks, but I'm ignoring melee for now. Now, where are the stairs. I want the DL12 quest but I can't seem to find stairs down, even with small levels. I'm not sure why I can't detect them?

The RNG wants me to melee. I refuse. Gloves of Power?! Nice! But I still need FA, SI, RBase, RConfusion, etc.

Less bolts, now. More pulverise. Enlightenment is nice. Identify at CL25. Detect Objects at CL30. When is Adrenaline Channeling again? I think it is CL26.

I'll keep waiting for what I need, and then scum when all else fails.

That was much better than last time. Oh, Rich the Thief is still annoying, but being hasted and telepathic really evens the odds, no? Plus, I got something useful this time: Hithlomir! No *Identify* in town, so it'll remain mysterious for a while ...

Granite Walls => CL28->32. :)
This guy is 4 levels ahead of where my samurai was at this time. Plus, I am way more effective. Perhaps I am a bit fragile still, but early speed is very effective. Mindcrafters get it at CL23!

I have enough gold to buy 2 stat potions ... I'm tempted to scum.

Hagen honored me with his spear this time. And those boots over there are rand-art with +4 Wis/Con! Its amazing what seems awesome when Shiva's boots are removed ...

AC 111. Speed 13. Double Resistance. Awesome :)

This character continues to roll. Awesome early find of Chaos DSM just awaits Celegorm for usage. And when that happens, I'm ready for melee with Destiny! But, Pulverise is still winning the day. With Heroic stealth, I buff up and then teleport around the level (full size) casting precognition to look for stat potions or other goodies. Its working so far ...

There are some really tough nasties at this depth. Scatha wasn't too bad, but it is the summoners that give me woes. Those two 'u' uniques really annoy, as they cause insta hallucinations. And I have Chaos DSM at home that I probably should be wearing. Especially now that Destiny got disenchanted (first tangle with disenchantment all game from a drake :P) Killing unique 2000hp horsies with pulverise is very time consuming, but effective.

Here is an interesting kit. Resist base from 5 different sources (I count poison as base). Hagen is redundant, but +3 speed/stealth is always appreciated. When can I melee? Well, as soon as I find 6-7 more !Dex, which will be a looooong time. I'm exploring 20-30 full size levels between stat potions :P I do it quickly, just looking for stuff on the ground, but clearing any monster pits and vaults (that I can get into ... no stone to mud?). I also kill any uniques I can (Malekith, but no way on Borel). I'm finding occasional artifacts. This +4 speed helm was actually a non-scumming BM acquisition that set me back 260k. I really want Hammerhand instead, though!

Holy, Cow! Thorin!!
Now, I have become a mighty melee monster! Still ... only ... two ... attacks. Shucks. But I took down Smaug and Jasra with straight melee, and I can improve in that respect by 250%. Just need, um, stat potions.

I'm maintaining style points for resist base on 5 unique sources, and I've even upgraded one of the resistances to an immunity. I have a second immunity at home, but it lacks disenchantment and prevents teleport.

Now the game is starting to feel like normal. I recalled down into the middle of a pack of wide awake ancient dragons, including 3 big nether breathers (I lack). I lured away the Storm Wyrm for my first such kill, leveling up to CL40 in the process. 4 attacks of melee really speeds up the game play.

Drank 1 of my !New Life and had the following effect:
Str: 70->100
Wis: 110->90
Dex: 120->120
Con: 80->130
Life: 98->91%
I'll keep it. The subpar life is only worth about 30hp, but 5 extra con in the sweet spot can be worth 150 or so.

Winding GCV on DL46 had 3 amberites, Loki, Biketal, a spider god and Ungoliant, the Sleeper of N'kai, and ... and ...
Well, I sold out to at least make some progress in the vault. Stupid Shudde M'ell was guarding entrance #1 and he beat me into a hasty retreat. So I started with entrance #2 and made decent progress, before realizing I was going to have to try to kill Shudde. I did make an attempt at first, but he beat me down to 96hp in two moves with a breath and then melee with an earthquake shatter. I had *no* healing ... just 30 or so CCW. He was guarding Mithril Chain Mail and 2 Golden Crowns, so I must get past him!

First, I had Pulverised Saruman and a Nightwalker out of the Vault. 2 attempts at the Nightwalker failed. He hits too hard, despite my 222 AC at the time. I think only +10 speed is the problem? Anyway, I then set out on Saruman, and eventually got him, though it cost me a lone !Healing I had picked up by that point, and down to 10 or so CCW. Then I went at the Nightwalker again, and led with lots of pulverise hoping for stuns. I got him at last!

Shudde was just as tough, and I ran out of all healing resource, and got him while at 100hp with a Psycho spear while he was trying to flee! I was next to a Cthonian summons of his at the time ... Could have been deadly!

The take was more artifacts than I could carry, but no Lohengrin or Amber :( I did get to reshuffle my equipment quite a bit, and I'm getting close to that final attack!

Still no speed items I care to wear. Shiva's boots are essential at this stage of the game! And I think I could do the Cloning Pits now :)

Question for you about farming Quartz Veins and other minerals: how do you usually do it? Right now I'm standing in the middle of a big room with dual rods of pesticide, but the breeders just don't seem too keen on breeding. I have to be careful not to kill too many or they lose critical mass... this seems really inefficient. Am I missing something?

Daolith is really pissing me off ... 700+ monsters summoned and killed. 12 uniques. Leveled up from 40->42 and I'm almost at 43! I think I am at risk of starving on this quest (12 rations of food consumed so far). He's back to full health *again*. I've been at it over an hour ... *sigh*

I'm scared of the DL55 quest after such a bad experience on DL50. I made another go at Daoloth with no change except +4 base speed and did much better. He's still a blinking summoning machine and more than I can handle. At least those unique Q's stay put!

Anyhow, I now enlighten levels, so I'll be able to spot a ring of speed that much more quickly ;)

Slowly but surely, I'm coming along. Kusanagi from a Storm Wyrm, and my first two rings of speed (+4 then +8) from a bubble vault. All resistances but the Light/Blindness combo.

Now, I think I can try the DL56 quest ...

Well, Victor is done already I see. I'll try to finish in under 30 hours :D

I killed Brand hoping for crossbow bliss, but all he gave me was a cyberdemon to play with. Shame too, cause I had to fight him, Fiona, a Keeper of Secrets, Glaaki, and Ancalagon all to make it happen. It's a good thing I have enough stone to mud to tunnel a quick ASC!

I can get resources OK. My damage is pretty good, but not stellar. Resistances are good. Speed is poor. AC is awesome. I think Crimson will help, especially as I need nether. But I'm not sure what else I can hope for to gain a much needed 15 points of speed? Feanor? :)

I'm getting my butt kicked down here ... Not sure what might help. Probably, I just need to pay the 5-10 !healing required to kill anything significant. Mindcrafters are notoriously weak finishers (except in Entroband, of course!)

It is finally starting to quiet down at this depth. It was quite crazy in the beginning! The decisive factor has been the ?recharging, as trying to kill monsters at this depth without healing or destruction is just ludicrous.

I have renewed faith in this character ...

Average Mind is now a vampire. I wasn't sure if that was legal for this challenge or not, so perhaps I have failed?

Why wear Stone Mask? Don't get fooled by its long list of resistances, since those are vampire intrinsics except for confusion. +3 Str/Con and (+8, +8) are the main attractions. Mindcrafters need every melee boost they can find no matter how slight. But here's the main reason: I had an 18/130 base con with 91% life rating. Turning into a vampire rerolls your life rating! Its now 105% ... So I'm about 100hp stronger now.

Challenge failed? Perhaps we'll never know ... :)
