This is somewhere around the fifteenth incarnation of this character. Named Retribution since I assume the RNG is going to be very mean to me as payback for the luck my Beastman Archer had. Took a while to figure out I really had to be patient early on.

Mimic quest netted me both Arvedui and Trident of Vlad and a whole lot of money, so I finished off the rest of the quests that are within my means. I'd also managed to get a pretty ideal set up for farming quartz veins. Scummed BMs for decent spells, but never found a staff of speed, though I picked up a number of elemental attacks.

Currently used spells (charges):
Staves: Earthquakes (14), Animate dead (9)
Wands: Magic missile (86), Acid bolts (10), Frost bolts (23), Acid balls (7) [42% fail], and Lightning balls (35).
Rods: Lightning bolts (5), Frost bolts (3), but these aren't seeing as much use as they did 5 or 6 levels ago.

I'm enjoying have more or less unlimited ID, magic mapping, and detection, but my HP is painfully low -- I'm starting to be reminded of my sorcerer character. Looking for a potion of self knowledge; based on other dumps, my life rating is probably pretty awful.

I just managed to clear a full greater vault for the first time on any character. In all, I saw 15 uniques inside (I think some must have been summoned at some point, but I don't know who could have done it). Ungoliant, Y'golonac, Rhan-Tegeloth, Tselakus, and Ubbo-Sathla were the particularly frightening ones. I only fought 3 or 4 of the 15, the rest were teleported away and saved for another day -- this character is still pretty weak and I went down with next to no supplies.

I'm really enjoying this Magic Eater. I wouldn't have had the slightest chance of getting through that vault without the readily available teleport other, area spells, and so on. My life rating is 94/100, I'll have to reroll that, but otherwise, seems to be a nice character so far.

Particularly important is the first Staff of Healing and the first Wand of Rockets/Disintegration. I always try to get at least 12 on those (the first one always gives full value, whereas absorbing a second Staff of Healing with 12 charges might only give you 4 additional charges..)

Found a potion of polymorph, so I was diving through the Mountain to pick up the potion of new life. At dlevel 49 I found another vault with Belthronding and the Torque in it, which provided me with all of my resists (fear has been a serious problem all game, strangely). Beyond that, found a potion of CON, three artifacts and a boatload of ego items which have now made me stupidly wealthy for level 36. I really like the Lucky personality. =)

Magic-Eaters are a pretty amazing class if you're just patient enough to deal with the early levels. It's also nice, as a vampire, to be able to summon a few monsters and eat whenever I'm hungry, rather than having to run around in the dungeon to find food. My main surprise is their fighting power: I certainly didn't expect Legendary[2]/[10] ratings for melee/bows at level 36, and I've got a pretty huge collection of magic I can toss about at will. My HP is also looking good, even without raising by life rating, but I'm sure that ring of constitution +6 is helping out quite a bit.

Oh, while in the Cloning Pits, I picked up the moronic mutation for the fourth time this game. I don't think this class is somehow more likely to get it, but it's pretty strange that it's practically the only mutation I'm getting. Off to Zul to cure them, then go pick up that potion of new life.

This last one had Morgoth in it, 47 levels out of depth, but he was sealed off in an area because of the pattern that you had to use to get to certain parts of the vault. I picked up the palantir from one of three acquirement scrolls that I had collected, so at least I knew he was coming. Grand total of 20 uniques in the vault, as well as 6 or 7 Great unclean ones, which are way beyond my ability at the moment. The Demogorgon, which I thought I'd try my hand at, also summoned another batch of them, and I'm very lucky it doesn't resist teleport or I would've lost everything in the vault.

Another question: I wasted a lot of resources going to pick up Terror Mask, which I really liked on my last character, Hemeros. If you look at his dump, he's still wearing it after winning. The problem? It's got the ancient foul curse on this character. I'm 99% sure this was never the case on Hemeros (it certainly isn't on the dump), and I was under the impression that ?*Remove Curse* didn't effect heavily cursed items. Just checking before I screw over my character by putting it on.

Went from level 42 to 48 primarily by hunting wyrms in the Dragon's Lair, hoping to find another staff of healing, but it's just not happening. I've been avoiding level 76 because I don't want to go into the quest with only than 5 charges of healing - 4 staff charges and 1 rod charge.

I have absolutely no idea how I'm supposed to manage the GWoP in the arena. Found one a level or two back, attacked him just to test, and a single light breath knocked me down about 500hp. I see plenty of other vampires who've managed to become champions in the arena, I just dunno how.

I want that scroll.
