Happy with my progress so far (famous last words?) Calthas here is my second-best character ever.
I have been going slower than usual with him and it seems to be paying off. Much recalling hither and thither has ensued.
Had a few scrapes at dlvl 20, but got through by the skin of my teeth. On my last trip I beat up Boldor who dropped Thengel. Very nice of him, I thought, as I've never seen it before. If only the shops would stock some *ID* - haven't found a single scroll so far. On the same trip I also got ring of protection +11 which, with Thengel, means my AC is 26 higher than at the start of that particular trip. Hopefully that'll mean fewer brown trouser moments. I would really like a decent weapon which gives me more than one attack though.
Also on the "want list" is some sort of blindness resistance. Dunno if Thengel has it and don't want to read the spoiler so soon after getting it, so I remain scared of Light Hounds after having a scary experience a few levels ago.
Golfimbul is the only known unique who is not dead. I think I'll dive from Dlvl 1 looking for him as I don't wish to take any chances at Dlvl 20 while my STR is damaged. Shopkeepers are being unhelpful as usual. Also hoping to find Galadriel on one of the shallower levels.
As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Golfy was easy meat but no Phial yet. Went as low as dlvl 23 but found it hard going and retreated back to dlvl 20. Just found Totila lying on the floor but it doesn't appear to be as good as my Defender so I'll leave it at home for now I think. 14 of 18 known uniques are now dead but Nar, Azog, Gorbag and Khim still live. For now...

Now up to 20 dead uniques out of 23 known. Shagrat dropped the Phial. Biggest unique killed so far is Angamaite of Umbar who didn't put up much of a fight at all or drop anything useful. Have obtained a few stat potions since my last update and now have 2 attacks/round after selling Totila to buy a potion of STR.
Beorn the Shape-Changer is my new nemesis. I have had a couple of fun battles with him which have ended in my teleporting him away and recalling to town after running out of supplies.
The second time I took him down to 2 stars but only had about 30 HP left and would certainly have died next round. I thought about using Phase Door/Blink but decided it was too chancy as several of his escort were still in the area. Next time perhaps.

Have fallen back a few levels after taking some stat/exp damage from undead which I have now repaired. 23 uniques now dead of 26 known. The others are Azog, Beorn and Lokkak.
Calthas is now officially my best character ever by some considerable margin. Found this armour near my first ever vault and I am quite chuffed as acid has been giving problems.
In that same vault I met Beorn again after triggering a trap of summon monster. He nearly took my head off (twice!) but I was lucky enough to remove him with a prayer of Teleport Other despite its 47% fail rate. Will not be relying on that again for a while! Teleport Self is at 5% though so I may not need to.
Sadly lost a ring of damage +10 while fighting a Colbran. I am currently feeling torn between these rings: STR +3; CON +2; and the ring of Lightning with its AC bonus and ability to activate for 2x resist.

On 8.11.2005 23:32 nckmccnnll@yahoo.com.au wrote:
CON +2 may well be the best choice - see what it does to your hitpoints. Ring of Lightning can be carried as a swap, as it's one of the few that can't be destroyed.

Thanks for your input. I did as you suggested for about 10 minutes. I then found a second ring of STR +3 giving me 18/110 and 3 attacks/round. :)

Yes, keep experimenting with that. Rings of CON, STR and Damage are all contenders for you at the moment.

Wow, what a difference from my last update! I'd like to thank Mim, Betrayer of Turin for his generosity, dropping Rohirrim, Gondricam, Orome AND Firestar. With Rohirrim I am now the proud owner of my first ever speed item and have a constant speed of +4. The only problems with my current kit are that I now have to use a ring for FA and I miss regeneration after having it for so long from my old Defender weapon. However I am keeping my low hitpoint warning set to a magelike 70% to help me avoid getting cocky.
26 of 31 uniques are dead. Annoyingly, I had killed Azog and Bill the Stone Troll but they are alive again because my PC crashed and I had to replay from an earlier point. From now on I am saving every time I recall at the very least.
Biggest unique met but not killed - Ariel, Queen of Air, who I ran into BEFORE getting these new artifacts. Thankfully I was able to teleport her away.
Biggest unique successfully killed - Lokkak, who was easy once I was able to outrun him.

Oops. Orome is my speed item, not Rohirrim.
