Playing an archer this time. I went with the Spectre because, well, they are my favorite race. Sure they are very weak, but they have Free Action/See Invisible, so no early game hangups. They have Telepathy, so no mid-late game hangups. And they have great resistances. And lets not forget Pass Wall!
They don't fight or shoot very well, and only have d7 hp per level, but I can live with that.

Another early prize!!! This time courtesy of Lion Heart.

I want the prize for most posts at a very low character level!
But it seems I already got my prize: Thranduil. I was just cursing my bad luck on the boots of free action (Smeagol dropped gloves of free action ... did I mention that Spectres have this ability innately??) when I decided to id that cap.
That should tide me over til CL35 :-) And the DL6 quest was tough with no way to see the monsters coming. I forgot to buy teleport, which was a mistake ...

Yes, sir! I like the new Dragon's Lair. I am not stair scumming it, but am rather using my Legendary stealth to walk around picking off sleeping dragons. CL18 to CL20 in about 10 minutes, though I nearly died to a Phantom Beast. Almost 200hp in a single round, and I did not see him coming!
The Defender came from the Orc quest, and the Long Bow came from the Black Market. Now my shooting damage is respectable.

OK, things are slowing down a bit now. Man, from CL18 to 25 was really really fast. Now that I need 20,000xp or so for a level gain, young dragons are not as beneficial.
Stealth is now Legendary[10], which really helps. I am having problems raising gold, however. It is a bit ironic that a character that does not need to carry spellbooks would have such tight inventory issues, but that is the way of things for Archers. Skeletons are more precious than gold since skeletons equal seeker arrows!!

Quest Completed! Gotta love it when the random monsters include a spotted mushroom, a water vortex, a xaren and a white knight!
I went in with Legendary[17] stealth but only doing 80 or so hp of damage a round with melee, so it was arrows all the way. 2x99 Normal 1d4 arrows (+6,+6) plus my entire stash of 130 or so Seeker Arrows, which I reserved for the Bokrugs (watch out for Greater Basilisk summons!) the Its (Hydra Summons) the Dagons (Demon Summons plus they have like 2000hp) the Gachapins (Hydra Summons) and the Queen Ants (Fire Ant Summons). Everything else got normal arrows to reduce lossage. This includes the Jurts, since they have a Chaos attack.
The quest started well, until the second It shrieked, waking up monsters as far as 1 of the Gachapins. Say goodbye to my stealth advantages!
In the end, the Dagons proved toughest and the Ants most annoying. The Its dropped the usual array of 9 diggers, slay orc weapons, resist acid armour, etc. Damn, I was hoping for a good artifact.
The Gachapins were slightly better with Earendil and Thunderfist. Tom dropped Faramir and a Queen Avavir.
So now I can melee. I also went from about 3,000gp to start to 180,000gp on finish, thanks to a bunch of spellbooks.
And not a single staff of speed in the black market despite my ridiculous day count. I resorted to town scumming for a bit, but ran out of gold, and had to go down with just my !oSpeed. It took 11.

Oh, the BM finally relented on staves of speed ... these are very very important at this stage of the game, though less so now that I foud a RoS so early.

Well, that is probably enough play for this week. I might go kill Bull Gates for Disenchantment resistance before wrapping things up.
But True Power (tm) is mine at last!! A fast stealthy archer is deadly, and now I have Bard's bow, though I have yet to loose an arrow from it. Thorin came from a Sea Troll in the Old Castle and Anarion was there as well. Perhaps I will not need New Life after all?

Hanging out in the Dragon's Lair. I'm feeling so damn fast ... until I move instead of shoot. But I can make due with +12 base speed for the time being. I also gave up Shards resist of Arvedui for Isildur simply for the +3 Con boost. Probably not the best move, but I'll try it out for a bit.
In the meantime, I'm feeling quite powerful. Hell Wyrms are scarcely a bother, but I know this will change a bit once I start running into summoning dragonkind.
Cambeleg and Hammerhand might be nice. I still light up with excitement every time I see a metal cap ... but alas Diatribe has been hiding. I think the rarity might be right now ... my ninja never saw it. Would I wear Spec if I found it? That would be a tough call ... I probably would even though that means my stealthy days would end. But I doubt I will be faced with that decision.

More Dragon's Lair adventures. A bloodthirster dropped my second ring of speed at +7, and then a +10 ring of speed was found just laying on the ground. So I am fast enough for the time being. I'm dropping to the bottom of the lair, where I plan to hang out for a while.
And I definitely need many many more seeker arrows. When in need, the Forest is a good source of spiders, which are a good source of skeletons, which are a good source of seeker arrows :-) We'll see if it comes to that ...

For the curious, antimagic gives 90 + CL saving throw. So the 125 skill required to avoid the statue effect is now easily surpassed :-)

But now my stealth has been regained (Superb to Legendary[2]) and my hp improved (740ish to 890). AC is not bad to boot at 170.

Outside there are a bunch of Sky Drakes doing there thing (summoning) while inside there is Atlas (who pummelled away everything save a gleaming 7d6 Blade of Chaos, which I want to check out) and Uriel, among others like Tselakus and the Demogorgon.

I managed the GWoPower in the Arena fairly comfortably. As expected, I wiffed on every shot against the babble. That's OK, it was the extra rod of healing that I really wanted.
Now I face a rather large vault with a (x4) long bow in it. Probably just extra might but who knows? Also, there is a Calcite ring, which is either Lordly Protection of a Ring of Power. I'm going in!

I don't remember using so few ... but perhaps all of those insane bonuses to hit from Spec and the like resulted in a much higher hit rate then I am used too. Also, I only won an Archer once before, so that might be a factor.
Lots of summoning! Like the Unicorn battle, there were a fair number of turns where the Serpent simply moved towards me. But by and large, he was a bitch! Summoning after only 2 arrows despite my +48 speed and 4 shots per round. In the end, I decided to keep the big J at arms length and pelt him with Seeker Arrows, which allowed me to carry staves of destruction, and use them with abandon!
But this has to rank on the easy side as far as victory goes.

Just count the expected number to TY_CURSES (I was expecting 50 or so). With Hellfire, 25 casts will be enough and you should only have to endure 8 TY_CURSES. My ninja, on the other hand, would have expected 200 or so, and surely would have become a statue!

No, the main problems with the chemist are its incredible speed (+50) combined with its Stop Time ability. You will notice I died on a combination of a double move and a stop time, the first move did no damage however and I still took over 1,000hp of damage. Imagine getting triple mana stormed for 1800hp of damage, and you will get the idea ;-)
