Artifact Creation About 50 scrolls of enchant weapon and 5 scrolls of *enchant weapon* yielded a (+10, +11) start ... I am not patient enough for more, plus I figured I wouldn't get the required extra might any way. Bard is tough to beat! This is not even close ... But then you have to consider that Belthronding has an extra +2 to dam... which is 36 per round. Hm, I think Bard is probably just marginally better (and certainly not for any class other than Archer). On 13.11.2005 00:01 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote: Damn, is it close. Bard yields 211 damage per arrow and 844 damage overall. Belthronding yields 169 damage per arrow and 845 overall. Now I'll stick with Bard for 2 reasons. [1] Critical hits will be more effective when upping the damage on single shots (I might use some Holy Might on the serpent ... similar reasoning applies). [2] The Mad Chemist activates a TY_CURSE every time you damage it (at 1 in 3 chance). This is insane of course, but its like the auras on the GWoPower. Quality is much better than quantity. But I did not realize how close the two were ;-) Thanks for pointing that out! On 13.11.2005 00:26 dzhang@its.caltech.edu wrote: Hm... not sure if I buy point [1]... Yes, Bard's crits will be stronger, but to compensate, you will be shooting more arrows with Belthronding, and therefore racking up more crits. Haha, I haven't logged enough playtime to get to the Chemist yet.. but thanks for the heads-up. On 13.11.2005 01:09 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote: [1] was a weak point on the criticals (though I submit that a 1.5x slay evil changes the calculations somewhat ... 316 per arrow with bard or 1264 overall vs. 216 per arrow or 1080 overall with Belthronding). Now here is another weak argument (I'm trying to justify, mind you ;-). Archers shoot there arrows, strewing them across the dungeon floor. Furthermore, they only carry a fixed supply. So if it takes 25% more arrows to get the job done with Belthronding, then that will be a factor. Especially in the big battles, where Archers need to carry so many arrows that they incur large (-5 or greater) speed penalties. Efficiency with ammunition has to count for something ;-) But like I said, the two are close ... very close! As you noted, doing the same damage with Belthronding requires carrying 25% more arrows. Of course, that only applies to the vast stack of seeker arrows (+10,+10) you're likely carrying around. When going against the Serpent, you'll probably break out the seeker arrows of harm evil, of which you probably do NOT have an unlimited supply. With Bard, you'll get much better mileage out of the good ego arrows than with Belthronding. Seen 1699 times. |
