Manage to persuade my better half that after years of her playing Nethack and me playing Moria it was time to go for something we both like.
Vardis is doing okay. Fast Leveling thanks to being a human. Need some better items to combine See Invis and Free action and free up those rings. . . desperately need stat gains so its time to dive!

Update 'cos he's catching Rowan (my wife's character on the ladder) and gained boots of stability of Ulfang, I'm betting that Nexus resist will be crucial. Of course still need stat gain desperately so diving a bit deeper despite low HP and mana.

Ring of Int v usefull, mana doing okay, need to stat up but wary of nexus hounds down deeper.... wife's char Rowan still thrashing me. Oh I found a phial and this sword thingy called ringil...is it any good.

Just keeping current, got my first special level and picked up a couple of arts from it.
Stats improving but still desp need to get to stat gain

Uhm.. You found Ringil? I don't see it in the dump anywhere. You're not gonna tell me you sold it??? (please don't tell me you did... ^_^).

Anyway, rNexus is not vital - past statgain at least, or before nexus hounds and vortices depths (tho it sure is handy).

If I were you I'd dive a bit to get to statgain and better drops depth; My own playing style for mages is a bit risky though (especially in the beginning), so if you decide to go deeper be sure to back away from (or handle *very* carefully) creatures that target your resistance holes.

By the way: you might want to consider wearing a long bow and some ammo for when you're low on mana. It can be really useful at times. Anyway, good luck!

Nah. I _WHISH_ I found ringil.
My Angbandnewbie wife found ringil and wasnt using it as she had'nt *ID* it...I lcame home too
"hey i found three arts, the phial of Glad, some gauntlets I cant use and this Ringil thing. Is it any good?"
My reaction is unprintable on a family website.
She's Rowan on the ladder and more than a few places higher than me. Thanks to Vardis being human I'm catching her on levels, but not stats or gear yet.

On 25.1.2005 10:34 Mars wrote:
Oh i see, it looked like you wrote that :). Well if she's got Ringil, she has a huge advantage; the +10 to speed will help her a LOT, especially at this depths.

Still concerned on nexus. Until I max my stats I'm really vunerable to a bad shuffle, Wis or Chr for Int FREX and I've already seen Nexus hounds on 26th, well b4 real stat gain turf.
Water Hounds still give my armour a good beating, althoughlots of MAB and avoiding LOS help. Rowan (my Mrs) did Draebor real easy but he gave me a hard time. The Vaults were easy in Comparison.

Still say Draebor was easy. Now that Glaubor, Father of Dragons, he looked hard. I cry the War Cry of the Magi... RUN AWAY!!

Whats a good Ac 100+

Getting through Stat Gain.
2 serious moments sofar...
Accidently wielding (x) instead of examining (I) a Morgul Dagger (enchanted it to 0 as no *restore*) and bumping in Kavalax, Lorgan and a bunch of Drakes on DL36. 60% Low Hit warning before I even saw 'em from breaths, more summonings happening so I ran for it and got of the level.
Should I take the Int hit and swap out =I+2 for =ResPoi, going to hanging out on 36 till I max out....need speed and some free ac gauntlets bad.

On 5.2.2005 01:12 Mars wrote:
I would consider carrying the =rPoison as swap. Also, ditch the rod/wands of frost/fire bolts; you got the spells don't you (if not high enough level yet, forgive me if i'm wrong ;)). Good thing you found Raal, IIRC it got some pretty useful attack spells; maybe a bit high in cost but you can always teleport out and regen after a strike (but try to get more tele scrolls!)

Ack Well nect Time I try for better Con. My first high Level Angbader despite a win at Moria.
Well the wife and her rowan has a good chance to beat me on the table now as its going to take me for freaking ever to fight a new character up to this level. Maybe a Pladin nect?

My condolences.

For future reference, Dracoliches can breathe nether for 550 hp (or so), so even having one in your line of sight was extremely risky. The only way to avoid being killed by them is crazy luck or 18/200+ con. :)

Me, I tend to avoid Graveyards altogether... too much trouble for most characters.

Better luck with your next char! I find paladin rather boring myself, and much prefer the Priest if I play a divine caster.

On 1.4.2005 16:58 Mars wrote:
Nice try! Better luck next time!

But as the previous commenter wrote, graveyards generally aren't worth the trouble: too much risk, too little loot. Unless you want to have something to brag about ;).

And taking on a graveyard without nether resistance and that low Con is just plain suicide :P (it's a good idea just to avoid the nastier undead alltogether when lacking rNether).

I'm really Mage/Ranger centric so its time to learn what those other key combo's do!
