Sniper V is my best character so far, having achieved cl 10 -- a major milestone for this rogue as he can now cast Detect Items, enabling optimal desperate scumming for items of TO, healing, stat potions and the crown jewel: a potion of experience!

Alas, I did accidentally shovel a white harpy to death in 1 round; I didn't abandon the attempt as I'd still consider '3 monsters killed' a pretty good accomplishment even if '2 monsters killed' would be perfect.

Thanks! There's a fair amount of detail in this thread, from start to finish. But basically:
1. disarm traps to get cl 10, enabling detect items for a rogue
2. dive to stat gain, scum for stat potions & telepathy, milk Wormtongue for his "create traps" spells to get cl >15
3. dive to dl 65, scum for experience potions
4. 1st experience potion gets cl to >30, able to dive to dl 98 for endgame
