- Infinite free heal with phase door talent are highly abusable
- Some damage skills are finally becoming useful
- Stone skin!!!!

I'm conflicted in my feelings towards XP penalties...they do make the game harder in exchange for power, but it's very unfun (to me at least) and makes a game feel much more like a grind and less like an adventure. The main danger comes from boredom fatigue leading to carelessness, in exchnge for an eventual clear advantage.

I'm going to try the first two Angband quests to see if I can somehow drum up something good. Right now I'm scraping through via judicious application of Hypnotize, Throw Boulder, Stone Skin, and hide-and-spam-cure-wounds. My drops this game have been atrocious, unfortunately.

... or so I thought. I didn't notice a blue icky thing who woke up and filled the level with clones of himself. They all cast to confuse and terrify, which made it impossible to kill them. I had to fail the quest :D rip Sting forever.
So I just dove to the bottom of Labyrinth... things are OK I guess. With stoneskin on, I have 172AC! I might put Hithlomir back into action and give Forest a try.

I kept going until I recalled into one Dragon Lair 70 that was literally made entirely of hounds (over 50 of them -- what the fuck), recalled back, then recalled again. This time, I landed right next to a Spectral Wyrm, surrounded by a ring of 7 archlichs -- and they were all awake! Not sure how I didn't die there, but I teleported away and recalled back. THE MONSTER ARENA IS SO AMAZING
I've been grinding for levels, and I guess it's sort of going OK. Almost died a bunch of times to "It gestures fluidly! You're mega stunned and you have no HP and you're terrified and there is no cover anywhere!" Super fun, I've never done much wilderness stuff before.
I almost killed a Fastidolococlonocnocn for Mega XP, but a Seahorse intervened and brought me from 300HP to single-digits in one turn :D
I guess I'll go back to giant hall now? I feel a tad weak to take on Camelot Knights, although I could rekit to have 2x rConf and 2x rBlind if I really wanted to. I just need more clvls to do stuff, it seems, and the XP penalty is starting to get ouchy :D

Oh well, I'll take what I can get. I needed a strong one-handed weapon, because even with Genji gloves my hit-rate with my best weapons when dual-wielding is awful in the 100AC+ range. Having a reflecty shield is handy.
Also, I found a death scythe in Castle, which I'd never seen before. Father Dagons, Queen Ants, and Gachapins all presented their own unique challenges. I cleared out all the easy melee guys first by grinding them through fields of death molds, which gave me a lot of room to teleport.
I used 3 of my 4 postures liberally -- Gen-Bu when I was surrounded but too lazy to put up moldwalls or needed the LOS to use wands, Seiryu for certain resists (3x rPois against Gachapins toxic waste, for instance), and Suzaku the rest of the time for the extra speed.
The quest reward was Stomper, which is great, but I found boots of speed in the quest itself which were far more exciting for me :)
I might try re-kitting again as a warrior-mage now. I might even be able to keep using Gandalf, because it's kind of ridiculous when wielded 2H. Regardless, I think I might just start diving in Angband now.
Also, I just noticed that I lost my steelskin :( I might as well go to Zuul and use remove mutation to get rid of that normality mutation now, as 4/5 of my non-demigod powers are bad or just meh (the living computer one is the only good one.)

Right now I'm byakko-ed out with stoneskin on for max melee-ness. I can have one of free action or rNether+ with this kit, so hopefully that wont' be too much trouble. I'm going to check out Angband DL24+ to see how this holds up before trying it somewhere harder. I might carry Gandalf around just in case I need to go full mage again.

I filled the hallway with death molds and then ducked into the room... 1 mold got him down to 2 stars, and I sprinted out at 37 speed to killsteal with a well-placed starburst. Easiest 20k xp of my life! :)
On 4.6.2014 04:29 debo wrote: New strategy of using molds to whittle things down and then killstealing is working great. It took 20 (!) death molds to kill a planetar, and I just missed the last hit :( But I nailed 2 dracolisks shortly thereafter with the same strategy, so I guess we're even.
Also, I can't believe it! I went to Zul and removed all my bad mutations and left behind the one good 'living computer' one! I lost 'you are enveloped in flames' but I rarely stand next to dudes anyways!
Anyone have any insight into how 'throw object' damage works? Otherwise I'll just go sourcedive.

Is it the case that wild talent powers gained at later levels are better? no uncastable lvl 1 mana storm or worthless lvl 50 netting cuase light tounds.

I picked up about 200k xp just by farming greater wall monsters :)
Looks like Mana Storm gets quite a boost with each CL though, which is very nice.

I feel like I could take out Utgard-Loke right now, but I worry about the Greater Titans who are likely to show up to the fight.

I head west and see an Elder Storm Giant guarding a bunch of stuff. Aha! I think. This must be it. Another round of invulnerability -> spamming manastorm at 32 speed, and -- nothing. Everything in his little nook is junk.
I head to the westmost part of the map to discover a vault, guarded by none other than... Atlas the Titan. Utgard must have invited him over for dinner or something. Now I have to figure out if it's worth it to sneak into that vault, because 10k HP is not something I can whittle down in one burst of invulnerability :( Luckily he doesn't summon anything.

Fixed the weird typo.

Just picked up Dimension Door. Hopefully the fail rate will go down to something reasonable in the next couple of levels. :)
I peeked at the capstone CL49 offensive talents, and while they're all awesome, I don't think I'll ever have a hope in hell of casting most of them at any sort of reasonable %.
