I'm still trying to make it to the bottom of the Orc's caves, and already I've slogged through over 2k monsters. They just keep coming! But the town finally stocked some stair detection, so I should be able to get Azog this trip down. Then, it is time for some Minotaur revenge! No genji this game and an all around much slower start. Finally, a Westernesse weapon allowed me to cover fire resistance (undetectable Archviles can easily bring down a 300hp warrior without it) and the Mimic's yielded a tasty pattern weapon to boot. Ambidexterity has me dual wielding early as planned.

Hmmm ... I thought I might be throwing my guy away with an assault on The Vault and sure enough, Botei-Building was inside with a pack of Inertia Hounds and a Crypt Creep. 550 evil melee damage already is more than enough for stat gain. I just need to stay vigilant!

Speed is my current pressing problem. Hagen stiffed, and it's amazing what a difference his drop can make. I did manage to purchase some fairy boots granting both speed and levitation, but decreasing my stature a bit. The levitation allows access to the Lonely Mountain which is my favorite place to hang out for stat gain so the boots are a nice acquisition.

Evil damage is over 700 and evil dragon damage is 859. With this level of firepower, I could probably handle Smaug, but there is no need to hurry. A few more levels, some more melee skill and more hitpoints seem prudent.

Boots, but not *the* boots. But I still levitate so it's all good. I also picked up a RoS in the quest which was sorely needed. But the dirty trick I was totally unprepared for was getting my Int instantly drained to the point that my Smell Monsters mutation was unusable. I'm not sure why that power uses Int anyway, but that meant no monster detection except for my scanty Sting/Tailbiter weak ESPs (good for Grendels, Fasolts, Toms, and Rogrogs).

Smaugy damage is sitting at a cool 1071. Perhaps it is time?

Time for power leveling! CL40 gave Fleet of Foot, the warriors best friend (Well, the lazy warrior who declines to bother shooting anyways). I also gambled 1Mgp for staves and got a single staff of healing which is critical. It fails at 20% which is a bit unreliable, but I'll use it anyway.

1044 evil melee damage on 17 blows per round. (My evil combo this game is Poseidon's Melt Armor talent which is augmented by so many blows and also makes dual wielding easier over the course of the battle).

Magic Mastery is so critical to a warrior as most battles require at least one healing to be safe. Currently, my staves of healing are down to 4.1% fail and my rod, 23.7%. And I didn't even need to don those Icky wizard gloves to do it ... A very lucky amulet of the magi indeed!

[1] I was knocked out on the GMM's first round of attacks. I attacked. He attacked. I died.
[2] Being KO'd is an automatic death sentence. I was recovering 7 points of stun status for every 2-3 rounds of his attacks and the stun counter keeps accumulating when KO'd.
[3] The mystic stuns automatically on one of his attacks and 50% on the other (which might cut instead). If stunned, your counter increases by either 20+1d10 or 30+1d15, sometimes more if you are unlucky. If your stun status reaches 100 you are KO'd. There is no resistance to this form of stunning: It just happens. (Aside: The GMMs other 2 attacks (The 20d2 ones) might also stun, but this is unlikely).
[4] The GMM retaliates when struck. This means that every round of melee is an effective double move by the GMM and he gets 4 shots at stun effects. Of course, he might miss you if your AC is high. That's 4*(20+1d10) to your stun counter if he lands all 4 blows. And god forbid he takes a double move (This guy didn't need to).
[5] I died by attacking, getting 2 stun effects from his retaliation, and them him attacking with one more stun effect to knock me out. So he only needs 3 hits to kill if you are unlucky.

I'll probably change this mechanic a bit. My ideas include:
[1] The stun counter decrements for each lost player action rather than every 10 game turns when knocked out. 10 game turns equals 1 player action early game, but 2-3 actions late game.
[2] The stun counter stops accumulating once you are KO'd to give the player a chance at recovery.
